Proper Way To Lower The Rear Of Silverado...anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hi, ive read some on here, or at least suggestions... i have an 08 Silverado crew cab LTZ.. I want to level the back out about an inch. What would be the best way to do that? Someone said replacing the shackles with lowering ones, like from DJM?? Any suggestions, or has anyone done this?

Actually, you can just grab some new u-bolts and then remove the blocks that are already there. That should put you where you want to be. Is your truck a 4WD or 2WD? If the former, I'd suggest raising the front, if the latter, the back is the way to go.

i have a 2wd, but i did notice there is a block on there already. looks like a 2" maybe.. But thats stock? So if i take that off, wont it raise it more, which i dont want?

No, when your springs are on top of the axle, removing removing the block will lower the vehicle.

i too would like to do this, there a kit somewhere as in any shims or u bolts that are already the right size?

everything ive fouind is a full lowering kit which is more than i wanna do or spend right now. besides, my truck rides like a caddy and i kinda like that :shakehead:

If you lower the hindend make sure you don't have a bleeding problem in yours. It'll make it ride like a 1990 4x4.

I removed the factory blocks from my '07, it made no difference in the ride quality. I used shackles to lower the back my old '88 Silverado by 2" - also no difference in the ride. Maybe lowering more than 2" causes ride quality issues?

maybe the blocks are there for a reason?

Yeah most likely more than 2'' ; the reason I say this it's a possibility cause my brother use to have one that could lay frame.

It would also lay out your insides on a bump cause the bottom of the truck would hit the frame big fun.
