Anybody else have this happening ? i was walking by my truck and happen to notice that the rear bumper has got little spots of rust on it , i can't beleive with just one winter the bumpers are rust already. would this be covered at all by the dealer or am i just out of luck ? my 03' GMC took at least 2 or 3 years before that started to happen.

This has happened to some people before, its the fault of GM I believe for the material they used not protecting it enough, owners are supposed to keep up on the polishing and cleaning to keep them like new

i'm guessing its on the outside? maybe caused by salt i just use some #7 chrome polish... take the little specks right away and makes em look like a mirror! how do the insides of the bumpers look?

Hard to keep them polished in the winter ! i did wax them before winter but really don't think its right for this to be happening so soon. also yes its on the outside the inside looks pretty good sofar i know that when i was looking at trucks last fall a lot of the early 07's that had gone through some of the winter had a lot of rust under them and around the frame sofar mine looks good just not the bumper !!

I have never waxed or polished mine once and both my front and rear bumper are completely rust-free. And I live in salt/sand-happy Minnesota.

My 08 has spots all over it also. My 03 dodge had the same but much worse. I think that I used mothers and took it right off as long as you dont let it get to bad.

I was at the dealer about this and other problems today, and they said they usually polish it and see if that works. I only had a few very tiny spots, but thought I would get it checked out right away

Glad there not blaming it on the "rail rust" thing.

Anyway its covered 3-36 "bumper to bumper"

Man ! have i heard that one before about "rail dust" makeing rust spots back in 98' my wife got a brand new Experdition (sorry!) and it was covered with rust spot they (dealer) tried to clean it off but never did, it would just come back later , the tailgate was the worst.

I have rust on both front and rear bumpers. Not only that but I have noticed quite a few spots on the drivers boxside. My truck is white and I live in wisconsin. The truck is 8 months old and looks terrible. I'm going to take it back to the dealer to see what they have to say, but I have purchased many, many new trucks. Granted I ususally only keep them 2-3 years, but I have never had this happen before.

My 1990 Chevrolet 1500 has zero rust on front and rear chrome bumpers.

I live in heavy salt area.

I do wash, then dry with cotton towels. And I use chrome polish about twice per year.

I would definitely take it to the dealer. I have an 07 Silverado as well and it had a lot of really tiny spots of rust on the back bumper and tailgate. The dealer said it was "rail dust" from being transported by rail car. They have a procedure for removing it that worked pretty well.
