Nbs 2007-08 5.3l Supercharger What Do You Think?

I am thinking about getting a supercharger for my truck. What do you guys think? I know it will void the warranty, but I still might do it anyway.

I found this company that offers a kit that is pretty easy to install and adds a lot of horsepower. I know it still costs a lot, but it would be pretty awesome to have this setup.

After checking around, the price isn't that bad considering some of the other companies wanted more than this.

Here is the website link I found: House of Boost

Specs and pricing for the system are below:

Polished Price: $5,879 -or-Satin Price: $5,480Shipping: Included

Discounts are offered to Automotive Industry businesses who can provide a legitimate Federal Tax ID#, etc.

- For 2007-08 5.3L Chevrolet Silverados, Tahoes, and Suburbans- Polished or Satin ProCharger self-contained supercharger and brackets- 50-55% horsepower gain with 8 psi of boost - OEM quality hardware, fit, finish, drivability, and gas mileage - Large 3 core air-to-air intercooler produce the lowest inlet temps - Systems come 100% complete, ready to bolt on - Installation takes only a few hours with standard hand tools & floor jack - No need for additional parts relocation, or "punching" of the oil pan - House of Boost exclusive ECU/PCM tuning- Comes with injectors and new AR103 spark plugs- Full installation manual with high resolution photos

We also strongly recommend purchasing a TransGo Shift kit to help out the 5.3L's 4L60 transmission, since they are manufactured differently now than a few years ago.

I wonder how much horsepower I would have after this install? I currently only have cat back exhaust, intake, and custom tune.

Thanks

My comments come from inexperience in doing such things, but my thoughts would migrate along these lines:

1) Supercharging will increase the thermal load on the engine. Therefore, components get stressed more on a normalized, per mile, basis. Now, are these 5.3s designed and built with enough margin to shrug this off and continue with decent longevity? Not sure, but a question I would have.

1a) If the answer to the above question is NO, could, or would it be wise to consider, a few critical components be strengthened to withstand the addition MEP this will bring "while you're into the engine, anyway" ?

2) On the other hand, romping on the gas after doing this should be a BOAT load of fun (tire smoke at 6 'o clock) :D:D:chevy: . Post pics of the tire marks shaped like a figure-8.

3) Try to contact others that have done this to assertain of they have had any issues. Naturally, the manufacturer will tell you that all is well and there are no problems.

4) I am sure that they aren't the only manufacturer of such products. You're going to spend good money on it, so, maybe there is a better product out there for not a LOT more money. Again, not saying this one ISN'T good, I don't know.

These are just things that would swirl around in my (small) mind in undertaking such a project.

I think you'd have a very fast grocery hauler with no warranty. For nearly the same money you could get a 32-valve turbo charged 2500HD mans truck.

No need for this kinda talk bud.

Thanks for the input guys there were some good points made that I need to consider for sure before moving forward.

The turbo seems like it would be cool, but I wonder how many people make em? I know Nelson Performance has one, but it looks super expensive and complicated. There's no way in hell based on looking at the pictures that I could do the install myself.

I really wouldn't be racing people all the time. I am pretty conservative, however, when I am ready to race or fly by someone it would be way cool to have a SC under the hood. Not to mention, they sound really cool!!! I wonder if my MPG would really suffer if I was just crusing around?

Regardless, I appreciate the input and if you guys think of anything else let me know.

Thanks

If your going to supercharge I'd go roots style instead of centrifugal. I've heard mixed reviews of Prochargers, if you want a real S/C get a Kenne Bell Twin Screw or go with an STS Turbo.

I researched the Kenne Bell Twin Screw (looks sweet), but they don't make them for anything newer then a 2004 Chevy.

I called STS and they don't have anything out yet, but they are working on the newer body style trucks and should be read in 1-4 months. The guy said, I would be removing my complete exhaust system. That would suck because I just bought a new one. Oh well, I'll figure it out.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure you could just put the STS turbo infront of the muffler and still keep your exhaust. I believe it says somewhere on their site about that. I think the remote mount turbo system is pretty sweet.

doing something this big to your truck will change everything you know and love about it. I owned a GTI that had a turbo from the factory, and then i modded the crap out of it. a bigger turbo and everything that goes along with it. needless to say, it was fast, but at the same time, completely unreliable, very small problems can get you stuck under the hood of it on the side of the freeway. and you better know exactly what your doing and you better have a full tool box in the back just in case something happens, and eventually, it will
