Replacement Bulbs For License Plate And Back-up Lights

Recommended Posts

I saw a Lexus IS350 the other night and noticed the license plate lights have a white non-tungsten look to them. Are these off the shelf lights? Also does anyone make a whiter, less yellow back-up light bulb that will fit the NNBS trucks?

I have PIAA Xtreme white blubs installed and they give that clean, white light look but nothing beats LED's. PIAAS's and LED's do come in standard sizes to serve as direct replacements. Search the site for details as this discussion has been handled repeatedly and there is a great wealth of information out there on providers, etc.

Hmmmm, I would have to say that license plate bulbs are nowhere near the top of my mod list.

It's the subtleties that make the differences.

Yep, that is subtle all right.

I have these in my 2008 Sierra and they work good and have the "Lexus" white light you are looking for. It's hard to get a lamp that fits due to the small lens they fit into. I tried a few and this was the best fit. Hope this helps you....I like mine a lot. Go to the second link first, then go to the first link and scroll down and look for the lamp that is in the second link. It's the "194 168 W5W 2825 Focused Lenses" that you're looking for.

Thanks heysdad.....thinking about getting a couple of these. It's literally just plug and play so to speak? Nothing special needed?

Yes sir, just press on both sides of the light holder and pull it out of the bumper mount. Pop the old lamp out and push the new one in and press the whole thing back into the bumper. That's it! Just remember that the LED's are directional. If the lamp does not light up, pull it out and turn the lamo around and put it back in and try it again.

Thanks again heysdad, just ordered 4 of them (2 for spares). Wonder if it will look funny if they are the only LEDs on my truck. This is exactly how little mods end up being big mods.

Is it just me; or is this particular bulb not selectable? Maybe sold out???

EDIT: nevermind, was going to order the frosted ones and realized the pull down gives you the option. :shakehead:

I also have some led's on our Envoy's plate and was able to get the 194's with the heat sink on them. They are much brighter than the ones that fit our trucks, but the truck ones still look good, just not real real bright. they look good though.

I got my license plate bulbs today, and man was that easy!

It does make me want to change the rear backing lights to LEDs also....how difficult would that be, and is it simply plug/play also?

Just got mine yesterday. Kinda suprised such a small box took 10 days to recieve. Ohh well. And they were not as bright as I would have liked them to be, but the color is nice. What should I have expected for a few bucks? BTW, easy install.... I did it in my driveway, in the dark, in my pajamas, with about 6 tall Blue Moons in me
