1999 Silverado Broken Tranny Adapter

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 1999 new style silverado 4x4 5.3 ltr

the adapter housing that adapts the tranny to the transfer case is broken. How i do not know or why. But it leaked bad and i ran it out of fluid and blew my tranny. At the time i just thought it was a gasket leak. I took my truck to get my tranny rebuilt and it was then discovered that the adapter was broken. Never thought a thing of it just got it fixed.

Now 3 months later i see a leak under my truck and find its tranny fluid. I take my truck back to the man and he shows me where the adapter has broken AGAIN! He doesnt know the problem but says its not related to the tranny, and that something is causing it to move or vibrate most likely from the front end. I can get the part replaced but it will only happen again so im wondering if anyone on here has ever had this happen to them or have an idea whats causing it and what needs to be done so that it wont break again.

Easy one

you have a broken motor mount...probable the passenger side mount is broken

Replace BOTH motor mounts, replace the adapter and gasket , and you'll be good to go.

When a motor mount breaks, something else in the drivetrain WILL end up taking all the torque. Your adapter plate has to take this abuse...and it wasn't made to.

Im not a mechanic but i checked the motor mounts and reved the engine from under the hook, nothing seemed amiss. what would be a sure way to tell if the motor mounts have gone bad???

anyone else have different thoughts????
