12 Volt Charge Power To Trailer Plug

I just purchased a used 2005 Silverado Crew Cab Z71 4x4 which is equipped with the trailer package. I have installed my bake controller and have a quick question about the power to the 12 volt power pin on my 7pin trailer plug. I have discovered that there is now power to it. After some research I think I have figured out that I need to pull the fuse blank out of terminal # 1 under the hood and replace it with a fuse. From the factory was the owner supplied with this fuse in a bag or something to place into this spot or were you expected to go out and buy one. Someone told me I could pull the one out of terminal 2 and use it in terminal 1 but I think terminal 2 supplies power to the brake controller as far as i can tell.

dunno, but when I got my new trailer, we had to put a new fuse in the slot, then we had just for our trailer. I'd say buy a new fuse.

What amperage fuse? The only thing I can find in my manual or on the fuse box diagram is that terminal 2 takes a 30amp, it says nothing about the amperage for terminal 1.

Both terminals can use just about any amperage, it depends on how much juice you're pulling. Me, I think I have a 30 amp in there (I could be mistaken, I really don't recall as it's been a while since I've checked). Strangely, if you have the trailer package, it should be wired up already and there should NOT be a fuse blank there, but a regular fuse. If all you've got is a blank, then someone pulled the fuse to kill the power to the back. If you just bought it, I'd call up the place you bought it from and tell them about it and see what they say. It could be there's an unknown problem in the wiring and it needs to be redone.

If you have the factory "Z82" trailering package there wll not be a fuse in there,Just the Red "blank" fuse thats marked "B+"...You remove this blank and replace it with a 30amp J-case fuse.

I went and bought a 30amp fuse and remover the B+ blank and stuck it in there, All works fine. I called the old owner and he stated he never ever put a fuse in there as he never pulled anything that needed power to it.
