Wtb: Old Style Steering Shaft

Recommended Posts

I have the new shaft and it sucks, so instead of getting a 3rd "new design" replacement, again,, I would like to try and put in an old style one that you can grease, as at least with those I could re-lube it.

Anybody got one they want to get rid of let me know.

Yeah, it sucks not being able to lube your shaft...

Sorry, I had to. :shakehead:

Actually, I'm in the same situation as you. I've upgraded to the new style shaft, but still have the clunk. But luckily I saved my old shaft so I intend to repack it with grease and swap it back in. If I can only find the darned thing...... My wife swears she didnt throw it away, which she done to lots of my "junk" she gets tired of looking at. I've repacked the grease in it twice already, then the 3rd time it started clunking I just replaced the whole thing (which didnt do a dam bit of good). It seems to be smoother with a freshly repacked old shaft vs. the new style "greaseless" design.

If I would have thought there was a market for them I would have saved the last 300 or so that I replaced. We have not had any comebacks in my shop with the newest design. That doesn't mean they don't exist but if it was replaced and the exact noise exists immediatly after replacement I would be checking out the lower collum bearing.

+1

We haven't had any issues with the new design, and the ones that still clunked had a bad lower bearing.
