From what I've heard, your best bet for getting a discount is to call them, talk to someone, tell them they're charging too much, see what they offer, tell them that's too much... repeat until you either give up or they name a price you like. :dunno:

I tried that when I renewed my Onstar. They wouldn't budge, so I let them expire and did not buy any more. I have a cell phone anyway.

They did the 100 minutes for 20 bucks deal with me twice. It was supposed to be a one time thing, but I got the deal twice for some reason.

Anyways, my whole onstar has been expired since July, and my cellphone on the truck still works fine with 62 minutes left on it. I haven't tried to add minutes since, but once my minutes run out I'll see if it will work. I don't even think the cellphone is supposed to be working in the first place.

The day that the let me use my truck's phone on the AT&T network is the day that I stop calling them and complaining that when I renew my Onstar that I do not get free minutes. I like Onstar just for the vehicle tracking and crash notification but their pricing on that phone is just retarted. And locking it to the Verizon network is even worse. Around here, Verizon's coverage is just as bad as Sprint's. And sprint's HQ is just a few miles away!!

I got lucky, Verizon is the best around here and I was able to add them to my family share plan for $10 per month, has all the same features as my regular cell phone, free nights and weekends, free mobile to mobile...it works out well cause most of my friends and family are on Verizon...plus the call quality is wicked clear.

For those prices you are probably better off investing in a car bluetooth kit. You will have something to show for it later. I let my "discounted" minutes expire. I didn't use them like I thought I would. Call quality was very good but getting the interface to work well was impossible. It took so long to dial a simple number sometimes!

I have Verizon, but last time I called they could not add my truck to our family share plan because it was a business account...darn!
