22" All Terrain Tires?

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to install my leveling it on my 2005 gmc cc z71. I would like to put 22" wheels with all terrain tires on but have not found that big of a selection. The nitto's are nice but pretty pricey. The ones I really like and think are more reasonable are the Cooper Zeon LTZ. Now the size they do have in a 22" is 305/40/22 which is approximately 31.6" Which is what my stock 17" wheels and tires are. Would this type of set up look too small with the leveling kit? If so I was probably going to go with a 20" wheel and tire package that would give me a true 33". If anyone is running the 305/40/22 with a leveling kit please post a picture. Thanks for the advice in advance.

Not what you want to hear but...22 inch 40 series ALL TERRAIN tires make exactly zero sense.

NO sidewall on an AT tire makes it useless. Plus - 22s are going to be hard riding and very expensive. There are just now getting to be some pretty serious 20 inch ATs but most of the selection is in 18s... and the prices are a ton better.

Welcome to the site by the way.

Yeah 22's are a little on the large side for a/t's and tires WILL be expensive...

I took off my Wife's factory 20's on her 07 Tahoe and put 22's on and you cannot tell much difference in the ride. I guess because it is a street tire. I bought a set of 24's with 315/35/24 and put them on my GMC, Yeah it rode like you know what. I am glad I bought them used on Ebay. I also realized I wanted the all terrain look. I had a 03 dmax cc and put 22" 285/50/22 nitto tires on. I bought the tires slightly used, $200.00 a tire and wheels new. It di not ride too bad for a 2500 and 22's.

So what everyone is saying so far is that the 305/40/22 will not have much of a sidewall. Probably more like my Wife's. I just thought that with the all terrain tread it might have a taller sidewall. If I go with a 20" wheel what are the metric dimensions for a 33" tire in the cooper zeon ltz tire.

Thanks again for all the help. I really like this site!!!!

I've been looking at 275-60-20s for my truck. They are 33 inches tall. Several tiremakers make them now. Look at http://www.tirerack.com for that size. Even if you don't buy there it gives a lot of good info.

Thank you everyone for all the information! I still do not know what I am going to do. I really like a 22" wheel and the cooper zeon ltz tires. I just can not decide if the 305/40/2 will look too small with the leveling kit. The only other 22" all terrain tires are the nittos (too expensive) or 35" tires which I could not fit into without a taller lift. If anyone has put on the cooper ltz 22" tire with a leveling kit would you please post a pic? Thanks again!!

Well I am going to try out the cooper zeon ltz 305/40/22. The wheels and tires should be in this coming week. I hope they will look ok? I will post pics once complete. Oh and I am putting on the RC leveling kit and new Blistein ( spelling? ) shocks. Thanks for all the help!!!!

I've been looking at the same size. The only companies that make that size that I've found are

Pro Comp Extreme A/T = Mixed reviews

Cooper Zeon LTZ = An A/T with great reviews - there are the front runners for me, love the tread design

Toyo Open Country A/T = great review - but I'm not to impresses with the tread design

Goodyear Wrangler = not interested

Nitto Terra Grapplers = not interested

Have you found any others that I missed?

Im surprised no one has thrown a fit that you mentioned 22 inch rims on this site. It just so happens that I have 22inch rims on my truck with 305/40(all season) tires and I also have a 1.5 inch leveling kit, I know its not the same body style but Ill post a few pictures anyway. Also if its just the look of an all terrain you want 22 inch tires would be fine for the road but you would probably mess up your rims if you try to do much more than a mud puddle or dirt drive way. I know a few companies make a 305/45/22 that would give you 5.4 inch sidewall compared to a 4.8 on the 305/40 and the 305/45 is 32.8 inches tall. Good luck hope some of this helps.

Kluge,

WOW! Your truck is awesome! Thank you for posting them. It does give me a better idea of what they will look like on my truck even though I have the obs. Thanks again! Jeff

Kluge, I'm willing to bet no one is throwing a fit because they're trying to be nice and welcome the guy to the site (welcome to the OP, btw).

My personal opinion is that large rims and little to no sidewall don't make sense on a truck, much less an all-terrain tire with little to no sidewall. However, it's not my truck, so I'm not going to call the OP stupid or crazy or anything like that. It's his choice.
