Is It Safe To Buy A New Gm Vehicle?

Recommended Posts

I can get such a good deal on a new GM car but I'm afraid to buy from them with all the poor management they have had. I bought a new 2008 Silverado a few months ago and I felt like I ripped them off :D What worries me is the warranty on their new cars. If they file what will happen to our warranties.

Ask the owner of an oldsmobile what happened :D

I don't think that government will let the "big three" go out of business. Look into the past when Harley Davidson was government funded so as not to lose the only American motorcycle company left.

We need to dump all the hondas, hyundais, lexuses, toyotas, datsuns (nissan), back into the pacific and tell people to remove there heads from their a$$e$ and BUY AMERICAN :D It cracks me up when I see a friggin honda driving down the road with american flag stickers and support our troops ribbons...wtf??? Support the economy here! I know you will all say that these little jap cars are built here by American workers...but we should never have let that happen. There is no Chevrolet assembly plant in Tokyo, the import tariffs on American cars are too expensive. Try driving a Vette in Tokyo for under $250,000...you can't, their government would tax your brains out.

And besides, all of these japanese car companies trade their stocks on the NIKKEI, which for those of you who don't know is the Japanese stock exchange. This pumps OUR money into THEIR economy whenever some fool buys a datsun (nissan). GM, FORD, and DODGE can all be found on the NYSE, which keeps OUR money in OUR economy. Maybe there wouldn't be a recession NOW if people bought American THEN!?!?!

I have always owned American and I will ride a bike (Cannondale...made in USA) to work before I buy a foreign auto. Come to think of it I have always only owned Chevrolet...all with V8's too.

Rant over

Buy american :D

The link below is a "to the point" discussion of this. In short, it would be up to GM to decide. Frankly, if they *choose* to not honor existing warranties, then they are making the decision to go out of business mucho pronto. If they void past warranties they will not be able to sell new vehicles. They would lose all of their customers.

That won't happen. They will honor their warranties and negotiate with their creditors. Stock holders get the royal flush. Folks invested in broad mutual funds (including most US index funds) get hit too, since GM is held by *many* of these funds.

+1 American is the way to go.

Though it saddens me to see some module under the passenger seat that says "Made in Mexico". Air bag if I'm not mistaken, won't put in my other comments about that.

+1. Couldn't have said it better myself Brian.

I just ordered a new Sierra. I'm not losing a wink of sleep over it.

If I were currently in the market for a new truck, I would be pacing the GMC showroom floor today without hesitation. Life is just too short to worry about this crap (although plenty of people do).

GM is not going away.

You know, with as smart as people are these days, I bet a couple of guys could do pretty well selling insurance against Sky Fallage. :D

Yea, it's ccoming down pretty good right now and it has been all day. they say tonight is gonna be bad here.

Anyway, you could save $5-10 grand or more on a new GM truck that is better than the foreign makers. On the off chance something does happen and you have no warranty, you think you'll spend more than that $10 grand you saved over buying foreign? (even in the first hundred thousand miles?) The chances are very minute.

Now is a great time to buy a truck. Economy is down, but the gas came down too. I don't look for fuel to go up to $4 a gallon in the next few years at least, so you have some time to take the depreciation loss ad still get the truck paid off.

gawd i wish i could get my dad to understand all of this too, he doesnt think that it is near impossible that GM would go by the way side. I would be jumping all over this truck last week if the stupid media wouldnt have started blabing all sorts of bs.

No my dad is not paying for this truck but it is the first truck that i buy new and i want my dad to come with me to kinda beat on the dealer because he has bought 100's of trucks for our lumber yard and has experience in the field.

I don't want coverage, but I would invest in the company. :D
