Tbis & Blowers

OK,say I want to put a blower on my 454.Will a TBI(no doubt need to be modified) put out enough fuel to feed say, maybe a 6-71 or a 8-71? I know Clancy did one on his 454 but I think it was a MPFI.Which performance option puts more load on an engine..blower or Nitrous?

Blower puts more load on the engine without a doubt. Nitrous is only there when your spraying, its not a constant feed.

Your TBI will put out lots of pressure and flow for an 871. You will need to upgrade to larger injectors, but nothing crazy. If you want power without the loss that can come from having a blower...a better rout would be to use a turbo. A buddy of mine here has an Avalanche with a heavily modded 5.3, (actually its a 348 CID now) he runs a t3/t4 hybrid turbo in place of his muffler and puts in the neighborhood of 800+ ft-lbs to the pavement, with the right tuning.

His original setup with a smaller turbo and stock engine put down about 500ft-lbs...and that's on a 5.3....you should be in the 600+ area with a bigblock for sure.

Oh and another big advantage to having the turbo....with a bypass valve setup rather than a blow-off valve...it sounds almost completely stock...Great for a sleeper

Don't suppose you have any pics of the turbo setup? Is the turbo litterally in the muffler location? Seems like there'd be alot of heat under the truck if that's case.

I dont have pics at the moment...but I'll see if he has any next time I am talking to him.

Its almost exactly where the muffler was. The flange is located about at the end of the muffler and the turbo is about 6-8" away from the rear axle.

As for heat....better to have heat under your bed than under your hood. There's enough air flow under the truck to keep things nice and cool too. The charge pipes run the outside of the frame rail back to the engine bay through an air to air after cooler, doing this keeps these nice and cool too for a denser charge...and the alcohol injection that auto corrects for 110 octane aint a bad setup either...LOL

This sounds like the Turbo setup Horsepower TV had a year or two ago.IIRC it was on a late model 'Vette, and I remember the Turbo itself was in the rear of the car with tubes running to the front..

Thats exactly it man....damn....was wondering where I've seen it before....that bugged me all last night man...LOL

It is a very good setup man...makes lots of power and it installs nice and clean.
