A relatively new Silverado HD that had been heavily armored and turned into a “Narco Tank” was recently seized by Mexican Authorities.

From the front, this Silverado HD looks pretty new and not significantly different. From other angles and inside, it’s pretty clear there’s something nefarious going on. As it turns out, it’s a “Narco Tank”

What is a Narco Tank? Well, as the name suggests, they are heavily fortified trucks, SUV, and other HD vehicles used the run drugs. They have been armored for protection from both the police and other cartels.

Mexican Authorities have captured dozens of such vehicles, which are often built on semi-trucks, dump trucks, and..yes Silverado HD pickup trucks.

As the article on Wikipedia describes, “Cartels also began to build narco tanks with the armor installed on the interior rather than outside the vehicle, to draw away suspicion from rival drug cartels and the Mexican government.”

Some Narco Tanks even have firing ports ( as seen in this example) and engine shielding.

These modified vehicles are a significant player in the Mexican Drug War so expect to see more GM trucks captured by Mexican authorities that resemble this one in the future.
