I’ve had my Leer camper shell with electric lock for the hatch for six months. All was good. Then one day I happen to check the tailgate and it wasn’t locking anymore. Just the glass was locking and unlocking with the factory remote. Took it to my GMC dealer and they undid the wires that were t-tapped in the tailgate lock. The lock and unlock on the tailgate worked again. Everything else was a plug and play harness for the cap. Tried Posi-Taps and had the same results. I’ve heard the drivers side door rocker area has wires to tap into. With that said where did your dealer get the signal for the lock at? Could the module that unlocks the hatch be bad. Going to the Leer dealer this weekend to see what they can find but they say they never had any issues on the K2 trucks.

I should be getting by leer 100xl installed at the dearler this week, any advice from others? I have the GM bedliner that goes over the front of the bed rail, do you need to cut off the top lip for the cap to sit flush? Also, what is the preferred method for wiring the dome light? Tap the running lights, tap the trailer harness, or run a new wire to the fuse box? Anything else I should be thinking of?

I've searched through this forum, and have not found a thread that answers my question. Looking for opinions based on experience for a truck cap purchase. My new truck is a 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 WT, regular cap, 8 foot bed. I need a cap, and cannot find a dealer around here that has any stock to look at. Just brochures. I had a Leer on my 1996 truck that served me well for 16.5 years. I am leaning towards Leer. There is a coupon on their website that is good until March 4th for up to $100 off. Local dealer sells Swiss. Looks okay, but only have the brochure. I used to have an A.R.E. in the early 90's. it was fine but not as nice as the Leer I mention above. My brother has a Ranch brand cap that is great, but no local dealers for those as well. Opinions on what has served you well are appreciated. Thanks - Doug
