  1. I am at my wits end. I own a 1997 C1500 Silverado extended cab and I have just rolled past 210k miles. I wish to keep the truck since I cannot find the money to buy a new one so I have been repairing and replacing as necessary, which brings me to my issue. I have owned the truck for 3 years and bought it at 160k miles and at the time it had some issues with it in the engine as it didn't idle just right and it choked up on hard acceleration so I replaced all the usual and got my power back but the truck always had a bit of a stumble that never went away. I replaced nearly every part that deals with ignition and timing and got to the point this January that I had enough money to pay someone to rebuild an engine for me and pulled the original engine and dropped in the new one (rebuilt). now the fun part, the stumble issue showed up in the new engine as well. I have paid two different shops to diagnose and bother cannot find the issue in why it is misfire. The kicker, is all the misfires occur in just the front of the engine in cylinder 3 (the worst) and 2 and 4. The other cylinders do not misfire and the miss is visible at idle and can be felt at any throttle while driving. The parts from the old engine were transferred to the new engine normally I would have assumed the issue was in the spider injector but it passed leak down test flawlessly. One more issue is it would seem that the computer is trying to cut fuel and the truck is running slightly lean. I am currently considering that even though the EGR test passes it may be possible that there is something wrong with it opening too far and messing with the front cylinders. Any assistance anyone who has an idea would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
  2. My 2004 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 extended cab truck will randomly set off the alarm when sitting with the doors locked. It will also randomly post a drivers door ajar message while driving even though the door is shut and latched. Also sometime the radio will not shut off when the key is pulled. It will also do the key in ignition chime when the truck is off and the drivers door is closed. Sometimes the interior lights will not extinguish when the doors are closed. It appears to me that it must be related to the drivers door latch switch but I can't seem to find anything online as to how to troubleshoot the switch. I suspect the switch is bad in the door latch or else the wiring is broken from the door to the body from years of opening and closing the door. If anybody has pointers/schematics as to how to troubleshoot it I would appreciate it.
  3. Yesterday on the way to work my 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD with the 4.8L V8 Vortec engine started flashing a check engine light. I read it and it was a P0300 Random/Multiple Misfire. I had experienced a slightly rough idle previously (nothing serious) and had been unable to track it down. I replaced the PCV valve as a course of standard maintenance and it seemed to help get the idle back down, but still slightly rough. I also replaced the spark plugs and plug wires, and replaced the alternator on warranty for an unrelated issue. After I got the check engine light, I started doing some more diagnosis with a bluetooth-OBDII reader which is when I found that I had misfires only on cylinders 2, 5, 6, and 8. Since it was on separate banks, I could find no commonality of items to replace, so I tried the following things. replaced coil pack in cylinder 2 because it had the highest misfire count, no effect replaced the EGR valve, also with no effect. did the carb test to look for vacuum leaks in a few places on the intake manifold with no results unplugged to MAF to see if the idle improved and it did not (although I didn't try a load test with the unplugged MAF.) So I guess I'm stuck and about ready to give up on this one and take it to my mechanic, but I was wondering if there was something else I should try or if anyone has any thoughts. Side note: I only see the misfires at high RPMs (>1500), so could I drive it home if I take it very slowly and rarely open the throttle?
  4. A few weeks ago, the TPMS light on my truck came on and the DIC read: REAR TIRES PSI LEFT 33 RIGHT 0 I immediately pulled over to check, but all the tires were perfectly inflated. I clicked the DIC button to elimiate the message, but the TPMS light stayed on. The following day when I turned on the truck, the TPMS light came on immediately, and this time the DIC read that both rear tires were under-inflated (I checked again and they were fine). A few days later it started giving false readings about the front left tire too. It has remained the same ever since, the DIC will randomly display false PSI readings while driving. If I reset it (while driving), the DIC will go back to the mileage display for a while, then a few minutes later it will go back to the false display of 3 out of the 4 tires. It has never mentioned anything about the front right tire. The TPMS idiot light has been permanently on since the issues began. It is extremely distracting and annoying, I've searched the web and haven't found anyone having the same issues. Last thing I'll mention is that when it was about 2 years old, the dealer fixed the "Service TPMS System" failure under warranty and had been fine until two weeks ago. Original owner, bone stock, 79K miles.
