Hello, Let me start by saying I have almost zero mechanical aptitude. Engines are magical beings to me that somehow have been transported into our world from a parallel universe by an alien race. I once thought I had to put oil into the engine through the dipstick hole... Hopefully that paints a clear enough picture... I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD that is having issues with switching in and out of 4 wheel drive. I took it to a mechanic and they told me the Transfer Case Control Module needed to be replaced as it was no longer communicating with... something, I seriously don't remember what exactly they said. I do remember they said it was going to be just over $500.. now numbers, I do understand; and that's a higher number than I am comfortable with. My truck's 4 wheel drive selection switch has 3 buttons (2wd, 4hi, and 4lo). The TCCM for the three button model is over $300, but the TCCM for a 4 button switch (auto 4wd plus my three) is like $160, much better for my numbers. Here is my question... If it's a stupid just scroll back up and read about the dipstick hole; Can I use the TCCM for the 4 button in my truck even though I only have the 3 button switch? Or can I use the TCCM for the 4 button switch and replace my switch with the 4 button switch? The back of the TCCMs appear to be the same, only 3 connector ports for the wiring harness, so I thought I'd ask. In case anyone is cringing over the thought that I might attempt this repair myself, take a breath, I'm going to pay a colleague at work to do the install and hopefully save a little money. Thanks, Chris
