How much horsepower do the new 2027 Silverado V8s make?
This is the big one for a lot of you, and it is the question Chevrolet was most careful to sidestep. We do know the hardware. Two new gas V8s, a 5.7L and a 6.6L, sit alongside the carryover 2.7L TurboMax four-cylinder, which now gets a 10-speed automatic, and the familiar 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel.
Chevrolet was happy to talk philosophy. The company says the new pair gives the Silverado the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 family in the segment, and the engineering team was clear that these are genuinely new designs, not old small-blocks bored out for a bit of extra displacement.
What is missing is any actual output. There is no horsepower, no torque, and no towing or payload rating yet. If you are cross-shopping the Silverado against a Ford F-150 or Ram 1500, those are the exact figures you are waiting on, and they should arrive closer to the start of production later this year. Will the 2027 Silverado keep Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?
If we had to bet on which question sparks the longest forum thread, it is this one. Chevrolet did not address it at all during the reveal, and there was no mention of smartphone projection anywhere in the materials, which is telling on its own.
Here is why that silence matters. GM began removing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from its electric vehicles back in 2023, and in October 2025, CEO Mary Barra confirmed the plan now stretches across the entire lineup, gas-powered trucks included, as the company moves everyone onto its own Google-based infotainment system. That changeover is expected to begin in 2028 and roll out gradually, model by model, as each vehicle is redesigned.
The 2027 Silverado is a clean-sheet redesign arriving right as that transition starts, which is exactly what makes its status an open question. Chevrolet has not said whether the new truck holds onto phone projection or becomes one of the first gas models to launch without it. And this is no small detail for buyers. We have already watched that friction play out across GM’s EVs, where one Chevy Equinox EV owner’s frustration over app connectivity sparked a heated Reddit debate. In a widely shared poll, the overwhelming majority of respondents said losing CarPlay and Android Auto would be a dealbreaker on their next vehicle.
