Nine colors, six trims, and exactly one paint that costs nothing. GMC just switched on the interactive configurator for the next-generation 2027 Sierra 1500, giving us our first complete look at the color palette. We clicked through every trim and every swatch, just like we did for the 2027 Silverado 1500 colors, and the Sierra plays by noticeably different rules than its Chevrolet twin.

The usual caveats first. Order books have not opened, so official pricing is not published. GMC’s configurator footnotes every color except Summit White, and dealer information backs that up: Summit White is expected to be the only no-charge paint on the truck. Paint codes below come from GM’s published order guides for other 2027 models that share these paints, plus established codes for the carryovers. We will firm up every number when the Sierra’s order guide drops.

What Colors Does the 2027 Sierra 1500 Come In?

Color Paint Code Extra Cost? Available Trims
Summit White GAZ No Pro, Elevation, AT4, AT4X
Onyx Black GBA Yes All six trims
Sterling Metallic GXD Yes All six trims
Dark Ridge Metallic GEC Yes All six trims
Coastal Dune G42 Yes All six trims
Mesa Red GAS Yes Pro, Elevation, AT4, AT4X
Cardinal Red G7C Yes Pro, Elevation
Azurite Blue Metallic G4M Yes Denali, Denali Ultimate
Glacier White Tricoat G4J Yes ($1,095 reported) Denali, Denali Ultimate

Four colors span all six trims: Onyx Black, Sterling Metallic, Dark Ridge Metallic, and Coastal Dune. The other five are gated, and the gates tell you exactly how GMC thinks about its lineup.

Only One Free Color, and the Denali Can’t Have It

Summit White is the only no-charge paint on the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500.

Here is the number that jumps out: the 2027 Silverado offers five no-charge colors. The Sierra offers one. Summit White is the only paint that will not add to your bottom line, and it is only offered on Pro, Elevation, AT4, and AT4X.

Follow that logic to the top of the lineup and you land somewhere remarkable. The Denali and Denali Ultimate do not offer Summit White at all. Their six-color palette is Onyx Black, Sterling Metallic, Dark Ridge Metallic, Coastal Dune, and the two Denali exclusives, Azurite Blue Metallic and Glacier White Tricoat. Every one of them is footnoted as an extra charge. Order a 2027 Sierra Denali and you are paying for paint, full stop.

Glacier White Tricoat, reported at 1,095 dollars, is the priciest paint on the 2027 Sierra.

Glacier White Tricoat is the big ticket. It arrived on the Sierra last year as the replacement for White Frost Tricoat, and reported pricing puts it at $1,095, which would make it the most expensive finish on the truck. Want a white Denali? That is the only way to get one.

If that setup sounds familiar, it should. The Silverado High Country pulls the same move with Polar White Tricoat. GM has quietly decided that a free white truck is for the working trims, on both sides of the showroom.

Which 2027 Sierra Colors Are New?

Mesa Red is the same GAS paint Chevrolet sells as Apex Red on the 2027 Silverado.

Three 2026 colors are gone: Downpour Metallic, Titanium Rush Metallic, and Volcanic Red. In their place, the Sierra picks up Mesa Red, Cardinal Red, Azurite Blue Metallic, and Dark Ridge Metallic, a name that debuted on the 2027 GMC Canyon earlier this year with the same GEC paint code.

Carrying over: Summit White, Onyx Black, Sterling Metallic, Coastal Dune, and Glacier White Tricoat, both of the latter having joined the palette for 2026.

And where Chevrolet consolidated to a single red, GMC is running two. Mesa Red is the volume red, offered on Pro through AT4X. Cardinal Red is the brighter of the pair and is locked to Pro and Elevation only, which makes it this truck’s version of the Silverado’s street-only Riptide Blue: the flashiest colors live at the affordable end of the lineup.

Same Paint, Different Name: The Sierra to Silverado Decoder

GM paints both trucks in the same plants with the same paint, then names them separately for each brand. If you cross-shop the twins, this table is your translator. The paint code is what matters; the name is marketing.

Paint Code Sierra Name Silverado Name
GAZ Summit White Summit White
GBA Onyx Black Black
GXD Sterling Metallic Sterling Gray Metallic
G42 Coastal Dune White Sands
GAS Mesa Red Apex Red
G4M Azurite Blue Metallic Pacific Blue Metallic
G4J Glacier White Tricoat Polar White Tricoat
G7C Cardinal Red Not offered
GEC Dark Ridge Metallic Not offered
GJV Not offered Riptide Blue Metallic
GTM Not offered Trillium Green Metallic

The gaps are as interesting as the matches. The Sierra gets no green: Trillium Green Metallic is Chevrolet’s alone. Outside the Denali pair, the Sierra gets no blue either, while Silverado buyers in the lower trims can have Riptide Blue. And Cardinal Red’s G7C code is one longtime Sierra and Silverado shoppers may recognize: it belonged to Red Hot on the outgoing trucks. Chevrolet dropped its bright red for 2027. GMC appears to have kept the paint and given it a new name.

Which Color Should You Order?

Sterling Metallic is one of four colors offered on all six 2027 Sierra trims.

The buyer’s logic from our Silverado color guide applies here unchanged: light neutrals like Coastal Dune and Sterling Metallic hide dirt and swirls, black is beautiful and demanding, and white anchors resale. The Sierra-specific wrinkle is that only one of those safe choices is free, and only on the lower four trims.

Coastal Dune carries over for 2027 and is offered on every Sierra trim.

One honest observation: this is a conservative palette. Six of the nine colors are white, black, gray, or tan. If GMC’s premium positioning explains the paint pricing, it also explains the restraint, but Silverado buyers got a green and two blues to play with. Sierra buyers get one blue, and only if they buy a Denali.

What’s Next

Official pricing and the full order guide should arrive before the truck goes on sale in late 2026, and we will update this guide when they do. The interiors deserve their own story on both trucks, and the Sierra’s Interior and Wheel configurator tabs give us plenty to work with. Stay tuned.
