General Motors Design is giving us a small glimpse into the sketches that inspired the 2021 GMC HUMMER EV.

Posted this morning to the GM Design Instagram account, the sketches show a futuristic HUMMER that is edgy, modern, and a little less “hummer-like” than we’d expect.

The sketches feature a sharp edge off-road beast with a high belt line. Angular design elements abound.

The GM Design account only gives us a little info about the drawings. They note: “Here’s a Hummer sketch page to brighten your Monday.”

But the Chief Engineer of the 2021 GMC HUMMER EV Electric Truck, Al Oppenheiser, added more information when he reposted the image to his personal Facebook account.

Al added some context, staying the drawings are “Early HummerEV sketches, which provided inspiration for the final theme.”

So while the sketches didn’t drive the final design for the 2021 HUMMER EV, it’s interesting to note that GM was thinking about taking it in a radical new direction, before ultimately playing it safer.
