What if General Motors just woke up one day and decided to recall every single model they make all at once? If you look at their latest NHTSA filing, it sure looks like they gave it their best shot.
The official list of affected vehicles reads like a complete dealership inventory roll-call. It stretches from the mid-size Chevrolet Colorado all the way up to the massive GMC Hummer EV.
But here is the punchline: while this sweeping safety campaign technically includes almost every 2026 nameplate under the sun, the reality is actually pretty hilarious. It only affects a grand total of 5,482 vehicles nationwide.
It is the ultimate “needle in a haystack” recall. To put it in perspective, GM is officially recalling the 2026 Silverado 3500HD… but only two of them in the entire country actually have the defect.
So, what exactly is the critical safety flaw triggering a nationwide alert for a handful of Silverado and Sierra pickups? A missing digital file.

The “Missing” Owner’s Manual
According to NHTSA Safety Recall Report 26V114, General Motors discovered that certain vehicles were delivered to customers without an owner’s manual. Because modern GM vehicles utilize a digital, screen-based electronic owner’s manual rather than a massive paper book in the glovebox, the vehicles rely on an over-the-air download to populate the manual.
During a manual operation at the assembly plants, some vehicle radios were incorrectly left in a status that blocked the automatic download of the electronic manual. Because federal law (FMVSS No. 208) requires an owner’s manual to be present to inform occupants about crash protection and safety features, GM had to issue a formal recall.
How to Tell if Your Truck is Affected
If you recently took delivery of a 2025, 2026, or 2027 GM vehicle, there is an incredibly easy way to tell if your truck was a victim of this factory glitch.
First, simply try to open the electronic Owner’s Manual on your infotainment screen. Furthermore, GM notes in the recall documents that owners with this radio glitch will also be unable to log in to their myBrand (myChevrolet or myGMC) app directly from their vehicle’s screen.
If you can’t log in or read the manual, you are likely one of the 5,482 affected owners. The fix is incredibly simple: your dealer just needs to perform a quick reset of the vehicle radio to force the automatic download.
