The wait is over. This morning, General Motors officially pulled the cover off the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport and the track-focused Grand Sport X. But the biggest news isn’t the aerodynamics or the badge, it’s the absolute monster sitting right behind the driver.
While the rest of the automotive industry is frantically downsizing, GM just doubled down on American muscle. The 2027 Grand Sport lineup is powered by an all-new, naturally aspirated 6.7-liter LS6 V8. The Grand Sport X adds even more power and all-wheel-drive.

The Return of the LS6

This hybrid setup delivers a combined 721 horsepower and near-instant torque, allowing for explosive all-wheel-drive launches. It even includes a “Stealth Mode” for quiet electric-only neighborhood exits up to 50 mph, alongside track-specific modes like “Qualifying” and “Push-to-Pass”.
But What Does This Mean for the Next-Gen Silverado?
If you read our site regularly, that “6.7-liter” displacement might have just made your ears perk up.
A few weeks ago, we published an exclusive leak from a GM dealer conference stating that the 2027 Silverado 1500 was getting two new engines: a tech-heavy 5.7L hybrid and a naturally aspirated 6.6L V8.
With today’s reveal of a 6.7L Corvette engine, we are officially looking at a 0.1-liter mystery.

Historically, GM loves to share flagship V8 architectures between the Corvette and their top-tier half-ton trucks. We saw it with the 6.2L LT1/L86 generation, and we see it right now with the 6.2L LT2/L87 generation. They take the same block footprint and tailor the tuning—one screams on the track, the other pulls a boat up a mountain.
So, does today’s news mean our Silverado source was slightly off, and the truck is actually getting this exact 6.7L displacement? Or is GM engineering a strictly truck-focused 6.6L variant of this new architecture specifically tuned for low-end towing grunt? But there is one major takeaway from today’s Corvette reveal that every truck fan should be celebrating: GM is still pouring serious R&D money into large-displacement, naturally aspirated V8s.
The V8 is far from dead, folks. We’ll just have to wait and see exactly how many liters make it under the hood of the next ZR2.
