  1. Like many of you, I am experiencing a disintegrating panel above the dash, which of course is causing the entire dash to fall off bit by bit. I could replace the panel with a new one for $1,000, or find one in a junkyard that will start cracking immediately. Instead, I've been thinking about fabricating a custom dash from sheet aluminum. I could install new gauges or re-install the factory gauges, etc. I really don't like modern plastic dashes anyway. Before pulling my dash off and having a look at what kind of job it would be, I thought I would check to see if anyone has done anything similar. This is the second 1998 C/K I've owned and I'm pretty sure I'll be shopping for a 1998 2-door Yukon/Tahoe before too long, so this project could be reproduced later. Any leads?
