Brake Failure, Top Speed of 43 MPH

So, I have been reading about the "Brake System Failure" w/ the Sierra shortly after changing the brakes. But with my wife's truck she was just driving down the road attempting to slow down to make a turn and the "Brake System Failure" message appeared and according to her she lost all braking capabilities. Does anyone have any insight?
