John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 2-20-2017 The answer is "YES!", when the wind is at its back. GM recently took the new ultimate Camaro to the High Speed Oval at Germany’s Automotive Testing Papenburg GmBH proving ground. Top-speed runs are always the average of two runs, one in both directions. That accounts for wind speed on the day of the run. The new Camaro ZL1 laid down two official times of 202.3 mph in one direction and 193.3 in the other. That averages to 198 MPH. GM says this was an un-modified production ZL1, not a "ringer." Chevy said, "The Papenburg testing was conducted on the ZL1’s production Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 tires with pressure set at 44 psi, the recommended setting for extended high-speed driving. The car’s only deviations from stock were mandatory safety equipment and data logging equipment." Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer, summed up the Camaro succinctly after the event, saying, “This test caps an impressive list of performance stats for the Camaro ZL1, which was designed to excel at everything. It’s the most capable — and fastest —Camaro ever.”

John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 4/15/2016 What has 1,451 hp, a top-speed record, and no roof? The Hennessey Venom GT Spyder. This March 25th, the Team at Hennessey set out to break the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Vitesse's top speed in a convertible record. At the hands of Brian Smith, director of the Ford Performance Racing School, the Venom GT Spyder recorded a time of 265.6 MPH. The speed run was confirmed by independent speed testing firm Racelogic. The incredible test was conducted at Naval Air Station Lemoore and witnessed by Commander Darren Fouts, Air Operations. I have a 2014 6.2L LTZ Wheelchair Accessible Silverado built by SVM Mobiltiy and I'm having a VERY loud metallic "clanking" or "vibrating" NOISE when I hit the speed limiter in my truck at ~100mph. The truck is still pulling hard @ 100mph and the onset of the noise is NOT gradual its sudden and immediate and very audible. Does anyone else have this issue? At first I thought driveshaft vibration or a warning noise from GM when speed limiter was reached... PRE-EMPTIVE STRIKE: -Yes, I do this on private roads -Yes, the dealer has inspected both road force and the driveshaft and have found no issues. -Yes, I'm in a chair from a car accident. -YES, I have safety equipment including a 5 point harness. -NO, I was not driving, my father was. and no we weren't speeding, it was caused by a blowout. -NO, that did not take away my love of racing. -YES, I HAVE SPEED RATED TIRES ok, I think that covers the pertinent details....
