If you were one of the thousands of people who received an expired OnStar promotion over the past few days, we have some great news.

Yesterday we reported that OnStar was sending out promotional emails offering three free months of service and a free Amazon Echo Dot. Great, right? There was only one problem, the “activate by” date occurred days before the email was sent- rendering the promo dead on arrival. Or so we thought…

Chevrolet Sends Out Expired OnStar Promo Offering Free Echo Dot
This OnStar Offer Arrived In Our Email on January 5th, 2021. The problem? The promotion expired on December 31st, 2020.

We were confused – is the promo actually a promo? What’s going on? So we reached out to General Motors and asked.

Stephanie Obendorfer, who leads OnStar Communications quickly responded to my request and let me know:

“We can confirm that the offer is currently valid, but the date sent out in the email was printed in error. The date should read January 31, 2021 instead of December 31, 2020. We are working on correcting the date and resending the email as soon as possible.”

Sweet! That means this offer is valid right now. In fact, we’ve already gotten the updated email to confirm.

How do I take advantage of this OnStar Offer?

If you got the original email (or even if you didn’t- this is worth a try)- you have two options.

  1. Press the blue OnStar button in your vehicle and ask about the promotion. Make sure to use tell the OnStar agent you’d like to use the promo code “Echo”
  2. Call the main OnStar number from outside  your vehicle. 1-877-299-1379, confirm your account and ask for the promo.

It’s entirely possible that this promotion isn’t for everyone but it’s worth a try. We received this promotion while our Silverado was using “Limited” OnStar services and they may have been trying to get us to upgrade. If you have an active subscription, you most likely won’t be able to take advantage of this offer.
