General Motors is recalling 3,893 2024 Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD pickups due to an improperly heat-treated steering shaft. The defective part may crack and fracture, causing a loss of steering.

According to CarScoops, it was one of GM’s quality engineers who discovered the problem during a routine alignment. A report was filed with GM’s Speak Up For Safety program, which identified a heat treating problem at one of GM’s suppliers, Nexteer.

Owners will be notified by mail starting September 18th, 2023. Dealers will inspect and replace defective parts free of charge and under warranty.
