The “Glass Breakage Loop” Explained
The issue stems from the Content Theft Deterrent System and a specific circuit known as the “glass breakage loop.” This loop is a continuous electrical circuit that connects the rear window defogger grid and the rear quarter glass panels. The Body Control Module (BCM) constantly monitors this loop by sending an 8-volt reference signal through it. Under normal conditions, the complete loop should have less than 20 ohms of resistance to ground. If someone breaks the rear glass, the circuit breaks, resistance spikes, and the BCM triggers the alarm. However, if there is a poor connection or high resistance anywhere in that loop, the vehicle’s computer can easily get confused. It might trigger a false alarm or stay awake entirely trying to monitor the faulty circuit. This creates a parasitic draw that can completely drain your battery overnight.

The Aftermarket Tint Catch (Warranty Warning)
Here is the most critical takeaway for owners. GM explicitly warns technicians that aftermarket modifications are often to blame for this exact issue.
