After following this thread carefully since its inception I bought a new 2016 Tahoe yesterday. I drove several and didn't hear any noises or buffeting with any of them. The dealership was aware of the issues some people are having and they are prepared to deal with any problems.
Best of luck to all of you and I'll be around the forum.
Yes I drove a 2015 Yukon SLT that was perfect. It was a rental some family members drove to our house for Christmas. I drove it for about 30 minutes in highway and city driving and it was fine. Very quiet and smooth, reminded me of the Cadillacs my dad used to drive in the 80s. They had driven it for a week before coming to us and then 5 hours to us and had no complaints. It had about 17000 miles on it.
No buffeting, no vibrations, I had no idea if/when it switched from v4 to v8, no problems at all. It had 17000 miles and felt like driving a luxury sedan.
Some family members arrived yesterday in a rented 2015 SWB Yukon SLT with 18" wheels. I drove it for about 20 miles at highway speeds and also made a stop for gas. There were no noises or vibrations. Honestly I couldn't believe how quiet and soft the ride was. It reminded me of my dad's Cadillacs in the 80s with such a smooth ride and soft suspension. I didn't see any noise cancelling microphones, just one in front of the driver's head which I assume was for bluetooth.
Anyway great vehicle.
At work we have three generations of Suburbans on the property going back to the chrome-bumpered 2000-2006 models. Today I closed the doors on one of each and all three roofs jumped so as stated above, this may not be a definitive test. Also, they haven't had any complaints about the newest one.
That's what I'm thinking. There are plenty of people out there with no problems so if I find a used one with some miles and no issues I assume it won't develop them but I could be wrong.
True. I didn't refer to it as a recall when I was corresponding with them but they still referred me to the recall site and to the NHTSA site. Just the usual run-around. I referenced #PIT5318, "Wind Buffeting Droan Type Noise and/or Body Pressure Booming." Document ID: 3975780
I just chatted online with and spoke on the phone with GM trying to get info on the roof bow TSB. Neither of them claimed to have any knowledge of it. I then entered the VIN of a 2015 Yukon into gm.recalls.com and nothing came up. They are obviously keeping this as quiet as possible.
Since the TSB came out so long ago (summer 2014?), is there any indication the 2016s are being delivered with the roof bow issue already addressed? Based on people reporting issues with 2016s it either isn't being addressed or that isn't what's causing the problems.
So a buyback is listed in the Carfax? Interesting. What I'm also wondering is if these vehicles have 20000 miles or so on them and don't have the issues then are they good to go. It seems less risky than buying a new one since many here have stated their new vehicles didn't exhibit the pressure/booming during test drives but developed the problems after putting a few miles on them. I started a thread on another automotive forum I'm a member of and none of the owners of these new GM SUVs are having the issues talked about here so there are some good ones out there.
There are a ton of the 2015 Tahoes and Yukons on the used market already, many of which have at least 20000 miles. What are you going to replace yours with?
I was running the other day and a Tahoe was coming towards me up a small hill. As it got closer I could hear a kind of humming/droning sound like it was lugging before changing gears. Has anyone else heard something like this outside the vehicle?
