  1. yes, thank you. End up going LTZ with 5.3. Very happy so far after a week or so of ownership. Much different driving experience than my last 5.3 with 6 speed. Averaging 18.5-19 mpg going to and from work with one stretch of straight highway at 70 mpg for 22.1 once arriving to the office.
  2. I did notice that a couple of times and didn’t think too much of it. Mine 8 when I drove it off the lot.
  3. Just wanted to thank everyone for their thoughts, comments and input. I drove my new pickup home yesterday, which ended up being a 5.3. I was pleasantly surprised how well the 10 speed changes that engine from what I remembered of my 2012. Very smooth shifts on flat ground and it never really felt like it struggled going up some of the small mountain passes on my way back home. Always seem to be in the right gear.
  4. thanks! It’s been weeks since I was torn on my engine selection and decided to “split the difference” if you will and going 5.3.
  5. Exactly! The lead time of an engine replacement is what’s keeping me away from the 6.2.
  6. 100%. I take it with a grain of salt. Still haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Playing the games with dealers currently. With how much inventory they all still have, they’re willing to walk away from deals over a couple hundred bucks. Onward we go.
  7. Very much the same reason I’ve shifted away from the 6.2 myself which is a shame.
  8. Thank you! I am really excited. Been almost 10 years since my last new vehicle. Looking forward to the upgraded features of a 2025 vehicle.
  9. I agree with your fuel selection on the 6.2, if I were to go with it I’d run it with 91 since that’s the highest we even have in CA. I own zero equipment to tow so I don’t have that factor in my engine choice. I’ve driven both and you can for sure tell the difference but I’d only be getting the 6.2 for bragging right and less downshifting going uphill, faster acceleration, etc.
  10. Ya, I'm going buckets. Over the past few days really leaning towards the 5.3. It best suites my needs a vast majority of the time.
  11. Thanks for the replies folks. Keep’em coming.
  12. The 3.0 fuel mileage is absolutely unreal. Glad GM still has this as an offering in the half ton market.
  13. Wow. Impressive. Thanks for sharing.
  14. We have very few #2 diesel stations left in the state from my research. It's all bio or renewable diesel. The owners manual states you can run up to B20 but it's recommended to use a condition or fuel additive with it.
  15. What year Silverado do you have in your 5.3 and trim level? And I would agree, the 5.3 with the 10 speed is a night and day difference compare to the 2004 and 2012 I had.
  16. Thank you for your post! What kind of diesel do you have in PA?
  17. I'm moving forward with a new truck purchase in the next few weeks and struggling to decide which engine to go with. I live in CA and don't tow. Typically drive 20,000 per year. My typical commute is 35 miles each way with 90% country roads at 55 mph and freeway at 65 mph, a combo of the two. I do get up the mountains frequently so the extra torque from the 6.2 and 3.0 appease me. I do understand having the turbo will be helpful at elevation compare to a NA engine. I was initially all set on the 6.2 but with the recent notice from NHTSA, It's got me thinking twice. Never owned a diesel and don't feel overly confident I can feed it the proper/required diesel living in California. What would you all go with? Trim level wise going RST or LTZ. Deals seem to be better on the LTZ with the 3.0.
  18. what about up hill? What’s your current rig?
  19. I’ll be the first to the party as one of the v8 lovers, a 4 cyl turbo ain’t my jam.
  20. I’m trying my best to educate myself on torque, horsepower, transmissions and gas verse diesel. I’m going to be shopping for a new 1500 as I do not tow anything nor have plans too. My employer is fortunate enough to have a spare company vehicle that’s a GMC 1500 with the 6.2 10 speed and that thing just cruises up Donner Summit in Northern California going to Nevada. It never downshifts it seems to have plenty of power to climb the hill. My question to the group - how much of climb is because of engine or the 10 speed being able to find the right gear, or is it both? If it’s the transmission being able to keep the truck is the right gear, would selecting the 5.3 allow me to not notice the difference? Or even better would the 3.0 diesel do better with turbos not being impacted by altitude and more torque down low? I do other vacations and trips in the mountains as well which would be loaded down with my wife and three kids. And a pick up bed and most likely camper shell filled with crappola. And yes, I’m typing this post in the garage on Mother’s Day otherwise I’d be in trouble for being on my phone.
  21. Good to know they fixed the recent design.
  22. I thought it looked a lot like the Ford design too. Hope it works out for GM.
