    I have a new 25 silverado 1500 with 1200 miles and it has a console shifter that does the same thing. You start the truck , mash the brake , push the shifter forward to engage reverse and as soon as you let go of the shifter , it pops into neutral. I have had to push the shifter forward and hold it there to keep "reverse" engaged . It may take several attempts to get the shifter to stay in reverse . And yes , I push the button on the shifter to engage to gear selector . This is very annoying, and I would be upset if it was my personal truck not my company truck.
