  1. John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 7-28-2016 The 2016 J.D. Power & Associates APEAL study has been released and we spotted an interesting fact. The Camaro is the only GM car specifically designed for the U.S. market at the top of its list. Yet, the Sonic and Cascada, both designed outside of the U.S. primarily for sale in other markets, top their segments. The J.D. Power 2016 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study looks at how satisfied vehicle owners are after 90 days of ownership. The study gives insight to automakers and shoppers about how well a vehicle completes its mission of making the owner happy. It is a very detailed study with 90 areas of inquiry covering all aspects of the ownership experience. Opel, GM Korea, Holden, Vauxhall and other GM affiliates design vehicles primarily for other markets, and those models sometimes make their way to the states. The Sonic is the Aveo outside the U.S. It wins the small car segment. The Cascada is the European Open Cascada. Cascada means "medium sized or small waterfall" in Spanish. It wins the compact sporty car segment. No GM car finds itself in the top three of any of the other APPEAL Study categories except one. The awesome Chevy Camaro wins the mid-size sporty car segment. No GM model finishes in the top three of any high-volume car classes. GM did better in all things trucky, as it always does. The Nissan Titan beat the Silverado in the key pickup class, but GM dominates in other truck segments. Check out the full list of categories here.
  2. The two-plus-two front drive Cascada will be a cruiser. It comes with a 200hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine and only a six speed automatic (no manual). If you want a sportier ragtop Chevy has the Camaro and Corvette in about a million different configurations. Many drivers want a convertible that does not have huge horsepower, carbon-ceramic brakes and a big price tag. They just want to feel the sun on their face and the wind in their hair. The new Cascada fills a slot in the GM lineup that has gone missing way too long. The yellow posts shown in the last image are the active rollover bars that pop up when needed.
  3. John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 6/20/2015 Buick showed off its new Cascada's safety systems in a new press release this week. GM is long overdue in adding active rollover protection to its drop-tops, and this system is very welcome. However, what struck us as we checked out the images is that the Cascada is a fantastic looking car. The two-plus-two front drive Cascada will be a cruiser. 4. By Zane Merva Executive Editor, GM-Trucks.com 1/12/2015 Buick will sell a drop top model in the United States for the first time in a quarter-century. Meet the 2016 Cascada, a 2+2 convertible that will go on sale in about a year. The 2016 Buick Cascada will feature: A 1.6L 200-horsepower turbocharged I4 engine Thermally and acoustically insulated cloth top lowers in only 17 seconds Top operates at speeds up to 31mph HiPer Strunt front suspension / Watts Z-link rear suspension Rollover protection bars deploy when a rollover is detected Lane Departure Warning, rear park assist, rearview camera, and Rainsense wipers are available Standard 20-inch wheels Electric belt presenters use telescopic arms to slide belt forward to easy access Electronic rear seat entry system Buick IntelliLink with a seven-inch LCD screen, Siri Eyes Free, and text message alerts OnStar 4G with built in Wifi Hotspot Rear storage space provides 13.4 cubic feet with the top up and 9.8 cubic feet with the top down "The Cadcada's design blends the suggestion of speed with sophisticated and uncompromising details," said Holt Ware, Buick exterior design director. "Most Convertibles are designed from existing coupes or sedans, meaning stowage of the top is an afterthought, but not this Buick. It looks handsome and has a premium appearance when the top is lowered - and a perfect, seamless profile when it's up."
