As the world becomes crazier over SUVs and pickups, even ordinary utility vehicles from the past are becoming more expensive. Try finding an old Ford Bronco for a reasonable price, and you’ll be left wondering what’s wrong with the world. The same is true for classic Chevrolet Blazers and GMC Jimmy models, but there are decent prices to be found. One of them appears to be this 1978 GMC Jimmy up for auction on Bring a Trailer, but that could certainly change over time.

Under its hood, this vintage beast carries a replacement 350 cubic-inch V8 crate engine. It’s mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and dual-range transfer case. Off-road capability comes in the form of locking front hubs, and the truck also has power steering. The Jimmy rides on white-painted 15-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 tires and a four-inch suspension lift has been added.

Houndstooth (houndstooth!) upholstery lines the Jimmy’s interior, and the bright red carpet looks to be spotless throughout the vehicle. There’s also plenty of red vinyl and wood veneer accents for good measure. The seller appears to have kept the interior period-correct, but there is a modern stereo for at least a little creature comfort.

Overall, this is a clean truck with plenty of vintage charm, but it’s not perfect. The seller says that the dash and speaker surrounds have cracks, and there’s duct tape on the side panels in the rear cargo area. The Jimmy’s current bid of just $7,500 is tantalizing, but remember that these things typically climb as the auction draws to a close. The good news is that its book value, at least for some conditions, isn’t astronomical. Hagerty estimates that a Jimmy in good condition, which this one is, should go for around $9,700.  There’s still plenty of time to get in on the action, so get to it!
