Truck owners are notorious for finding clever ways to upgrade their rigs with parts from other vehicles. If a part bolts up, looks better, and doesn’t break the bank, the community will find it. Right now, a remarkably simple interior upgrade is driving Silverado and Sierra owners crazy across Facebook groups and forums, and it comes straight out of the C8 Corvette.
Owners of 2019-2026 Chevrolet Silverado and 2019-2022 GMC Sierra trucks have discovered that the premium, metallic push-to-start button from the new Corvette is a direct, plug-and-play fit for their dashboards. It requires no programming, takes about three minutes to install, and costs under $43.

Why Swap the Button?
Let’s be honest: the factory push-to-start button on the T1XX platform trucks leaves a bit to be desired. It is made of standard black plastic, and over time, owners have complained about the white lettering scratching or peeling off after a few years of daily use.
The Corvette button features a premium metallic finish with a heavy, sculpted feel that looks significantly more upscale. It perfectly matches the surrounding trim on higher-end truck packages, adding a subtle touch of class to a heavily utilized touchpoint.

The Community Reaction: “How much HP did it add?”
Of course, any time you put a Corvette part on a pickup truck, the internet comedians come out in full force. The truck groups have been having a field day with this trend, roasting the mod while simultaneously rushing to order the part.
The comments sections are pure gold. Kevin S. immediately asked the most important question: “How much HP did it add?” which prompted Dustin T. to confirm, “Easy 50hp gain for sure, just add 1/3 of jet fuel and you’ll be scooting.”
Others poked fun at GM’s infamous mechanical quirks and warranty department. Bill C. joked, “Dealer will use that install as the excuse to not honor warranty claims on any part of the truck going forward,” while Robert R. added, “Definitely gonna be throwing lifters and transmissions now!”
Some guys are completely over the hype, posting pictures of their “perfectly safe” stock buttons, asking why people are “Solving problems that don’t exist” (Hunter S.), or even joking about swapping backwards to a keyed ignition just to be different. But despite the jokes, GM parts counters are seeing a sudden run on the button. As Hunter R. pointed out, “Manufacturer: ‘why are we seeing such an uptick in Corvette start button orders…???’”
Which Trucks Can Do This Mod?
Before you run to the parts counter, you need to verify fitment. The Corvette ignition switch uses a specific circular bezel.
- It DOES fit: All 2019-2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500HD, and 3500HD models. It also fits 2019-2022 GMC Sierra 1500 models (pre-refresh).
- It DOES NOT fit: The refreshed 2022.5 through 2026 GMC Sierra. GM updated the Sierra’s interior with a distinct, larger, square-shaped push-to-start button that is completely different from the Silverado and Corvette design.

The Part Number and Price
If you want to add a little C8 flair to your truck, you need GM Part Number: 85007203.
The MSRP at your local dealership parts counter is currently around $47. However, if you shop around at online wholesale GM parts dealers or eBay, you can easily find it for under $43, with some sites listing it as low as $28. If you are lucky like group member Hunter B., you might even score a deal: “I used GM rewards and paid $2 for mine.”
How to Install the Corvette Start Button
The absolute best part about this modification is that it requires zero programming, no trips to the dealer, and zero special tools.
While some owners recommend using a plastic non-marring trim tool to gently pry the old button out from the front of the dash, the community has found an even safer, tool-free method to pop it out from behind:
- (Optional but recommended) Disconnect your truck’s battery to avoid accidentally starting the truck or throwing a random code during the swap.
- Reach your hand up under the dashboard, directly behind where the start button sits.
- Locate the back of the button housing, squeeze the two retention tabs on the sides of the button, and push outward. The button will pop right out the front of the dash.
- Slide the red locking pin UP on the wiring connector to release it, then pull the connector out of the old button.
- Plug the wiring harness into your new Corvette button and lock the red pin.
- Push the new button firmly back into the dash from the front until it clicks securely into place.
That is it. For less than $43 and three minutes of your time, you get a premium interior upgrade that won’t peel, looks fantastic, and adds at least 50 imaginary horsepower to your daily commute.
