  1. Road test completed. Took unit on slight hill for a wee bit of a load. No CEL’s! I’m happy with the outcome but anyone reading this and is used to changing plugs on their 1972 GMC w/inline 6… stay away! This was not for the faint of heart, there’s too much in the way and that takes time and effort. I rate my project as 40% talent and 60% luck!
  2. Passenger side bank DONE! Now for the ever important yet recently neglected road test.
  3. It's important to take water breaks and even take a phone call or two. Keeps the mind clear, and the language decent.....
  4. Total time for air cleaner base and assorted giblets R and R was a tad over an hour. Lost one washer and wrecked a zap strap holder (small). Passenger side, here I come.
  5. Driver's side bank done=2.0 hours. Some blood shed. Minor.
  6. Just to let you folks know I'm working on this spark plug R and R as we speak. However much money The General pays these engineering people to make things difficult (even for HD diesel mechanics) to do maintenance here at the home base......it's working!
  7. I just bought 8 x 14-114 AC plugs for my 2021 5.3 litre GMC Sierra. I see there are different letters/numbers printed on the flats of the hex for spark plug socket R and R. I hope these are not "cal codes" and I hope this is not a dealer notation to enter via their computers after installation?
  8. Welcome back to MOPAR-LAND Anthony! Happy trails to you and yours.
  9. Thank you for the straight cut pump gear intel. Yesterday I went on my own "mini road test" found an area where I could safely slow down (at operating temp) and try to replicate the noise at an RPM/road speed sweet spot. I could not do it. Only when coming to a complete stop will the brief noise persist. Some reading this may wonder why I don't "just take it to the dealer and let them worry about it"? Well, the early summer of 2021, I still had my 2014 GMC sierra. It had a chronic "tighten loose gas cap" warning on the driver's information display and I bet I was on my 5th new gas cap in a year and a half? I took the unit to my local GM dealer and reported the issue. My 2014 was parked behind the service area and never moved. The service writer called me in the next day and she said they found the issue. I arrived and she had my keys and yet another new gas cap. "Here's your answer" she said with gas cap in hand. I tried explaining my how many times I've changed the gas cap but her only reply was "here's your answer, take it or leave it". The conversation became heated and she paged the largest mechanic in the shop to not only hear my story, but to stand uncomfortably beside me. I promptly left without a new gas cap. The end of that summer I found my present 2021 GMC Sierra to which is great. I will not darken the doorway of any GM dealership with what I call a "lite duty" warning light or in this case, a "lite duty sound". Chances are even if they do a road test (I doubt it in this day and age) the technician won't hear it as it's very faint. And I can't afford the inconvenience only to face shrugging shoulders. I continue to enjoy my 2021 Sierra ride, slight noise and all. And your comments on the sweet sound of a barking 6.2 are in totally agreeance with me as my Camaro 1SS barks exactly the same! It's grrreat!
  10. Thank you for the exhaust upgrade hint. I am going to concentrate more on possibly a muffler issue than a tranny or driveline issue? I must admit before even reading this update I've noticed my OEM muffler/exhaust is a tad noisy for stock exhaust on a 2021. I'm not complaining as it does sound cool, but there is a slight loose baffle sound at times too when the truck is at full operating temp, in gear and stopped at a red traffic light. Your Borla upgrade may be the way to go for a number of reasons!? In the mean time, I'll pay more attention to the exhaust and it might be worth my while to quiz my selling dealer if there's a chance an OEM muffler R and R can be completed using the "Emissions" section of my factory warranty?
  11. My transmission noise persists. Nothing has changed except I've put another 6500 kms on the unit since my original posting regarding this issue. Today we had a big snow fall and full time 4 wheel drive is engaged. I shall monitor thru out the day or two and see if the noise worsens?!
  12. My 2021 Sierra with 5.3 and 10 speed has a similar noise. Mostly when slowing down for a red light or pulling up to my driveway. I'd say the noise is only after downshifting to 2nd or 3rd gear. i monitor trans oil temp constantly and no issues there. Unless there is an official GM recall to correct this, I'm going to "let 'er buck!"
  13. Thanks for the exhaust flap "squeak" heads up. My truck just hit 80,000 kms, and almost like someone threw a switch......there's that noise. I would guess there is no code or CEL related to this? And, is this just a noise and no mechanical issue for the future? Like a few other small annoyances, I prefer to "let 'er buck"!
  14. Thank you for all of this valuable information. As it is our intention this summer to leave the Dodge Ram at home and tow our Coachman Catalina travel trailer with our 2014 to some pretty remote areas of the Canadian Rockies, I have no alternative but to buy a starter (using your part numbers) and pack it with us. I have a host of tools I carry anyway so that won't be an issue. And where we go means no cell service. OnStar? Unlikely. A GM dealer....hours away. Gosh, I'm really glad I bought this thing..........
  15. Best to have them check with your dealer anyhow and see if their truck(s) is due for the #13257. My truck was starting fine with no issues till last Saturday morning. No warning, no check engine lights prior. I stopped for ten minutes to go to the bank, came back out and the unit refused to turn over. Dead in the water! Good thing the weather was nice so the tow truck was just over a half an hour to show. It wasn't brutal cold....I carry survival gear anyhow and I was at a mall so no big deal. The next time someone else has this starter system fail, it could be a serious situation.
  16. So the updates were all done ASAP this morning at my local GM dealer. And the update #13257 covered this defect as a reprogram. "BCM Communication Error". I figure it's to do with an engine run signal. Makes sense. Remote start works to get the unit running, but there is no engine run signal so the truck thinks just that.....that the engine's not running, so it shuts off the remote system off, thus shutting down the truck. There is an engine run signal to cut out the starter when the engine is running plus other reasons as well. Nobody can purposely burn out a starter that way. "Who would want to do that?" Seems all good after a 75 km road test this evening. I stopped and started about 10 times and everything starter circuit works well, first time, every time.
  17. Well gang, here I am to join you all. My 2014 GMC (13,000 kms) failed to start this morning at a shopping mall, after 20 minutes of driving time. I got hold of OnStar and they got a tow truck going ASAP. Outside temp was plus 8 c. So, while waiting for the tow truck, I kept trying and got the same result, lot's of available voltage, dash lights up, but no click, just silence. But get this, lock the truck and use the remote start. The truck fired right up (no unusual noise from starter) then ran for 10 seconds then shut down, on it's own. Try the key, no turning over, nothing. Try the remote start again, truck fired up again, then shut down. I did this five or six times. Truck won't stay running with key but does temporarily with remote start. So I sat and waited for the tow truck. Another 20 minutes and the tow truck guy came. I watched him hook up, and just for laughs, I thought I'd try the key again. It fired right up. Duh-oh. Then it worked every time. So I'm thinking this is a heat thing. So I got the guy to leave my GMC running while we towed to my local dealership. We got there, I got the service writer to come out for a demonstration. It started up every time. Double Duh-oh! I've left it there as it needs GM recalls 13330, 14008, 13370, 13257 anyhow. I'll keep you posted.
