  1. Carven has catback kits for our trucks now. They look pretty nice and will fit nicely if they are the same quality of their mufflers. Pretty nice pricing too. http://www.carvenexhaust.com/products/exhaust-kits.html
  2. Thanks for watching. The cold start on anything with headers is pretty loud, but you can actually fix some of that with a tune and keep the RPMs down some at the lower temps. I am actually running the 40943 oval XR-1 now and should have videos soon.
  3. I say take the resonator off then. It will sound pretty good.
  4. I second what RAWYZF said. Which XR-1 did you go with and what are your future plans with manifolds and cats?
  5. CaptainMcfunk What year is your truck? The stock piping on the newer 5.3's is 2.75". You still want a 3" muffler, just need an adapter or the stock piping flared up to 3".
  6. For welding a muffler in stock piping, a straight pipe or Carven R will be the loudest and both sound really good while removing the resonator and valve. If you want the loudest complete catback, the metal mulisha is the loudest of them all I believe.
  7. Sorry. Double post.
  8. Look into the metal mulisha exhaust. It is probably the loudest catback you can get for these trucks or you can copy the idea behind it. The muffler is 3" inlet and the tailpipe is 4" into a 6" tip so it amplifies the sound to make it louder like a megaphone.
  9. Looks great DanHamilton. Are you 4x4? How does it ride now and how are the front axle angles now?
  10. Yeah. The 40086 is just one perforated tube straight through and the 40722 has 3 or 4 different size perforated tubes. You can google Borla multi-core mufflers for a better idea.
  11. 5RWill the 40722 says it's a multi-core which means it has 4 different perforated tubes inside I believe.
  12. SouthPawCO I felt the straight pipe and Corsa were similar in that they were quiet down low and got louder in the top end. The Jones was the opposite with a deep tone down low and tapered off on the top. Jeff5347 I really liked the Jones 3030 single exit. I had all the cats but no resonator or flapper. I rarely hit V4, but when it did, it didn't bother me. eBay had the best deal I could find.
  13. I never tried the XL with stock manifolds, but it would be too quiet for me. The 3030 was just about perfect. It has a low and deep rumble, but will actually get a tad quieter in the upper RPM range to keep from attracting too much attention. I like them loud though and even the straight pipe was too quiet for me with the stock manifolds and cats.
  14. Thanks SouthPawCO. Those are my videos and I am glad they are helping others. I have the opportunity to test out 3 or 4 others still and hope to add to the video collection in the next few weeks, but they will all be with headers now. If someone really wants to hear one of the new ones with stock manifolds, I might put them back on if I have the time to do so.
  15. Just stick with 3" straight or 3" in split into dual 2.5" if you want dual exit. That will work great. Back pressure is not your friend necessarily and the stock cats will cause their fair share anyway.
  16. Sounds good SouthPawCO. Glad to see you like it.
  17. Even a straight pipe is going to be quiet at idle. I felt the 3030 gave the best tone low and mid range, but actually got quieter in the upper rpm range. Don't be deceived though, because these trucks are really quiet in the cab making you think the exhaust is quieter than it really is.
  18. That's what I understood too. The shackle in Belltech 6400 and 6401 were both a 2" drop, but the 6401 kit came with spacers to put between the nuts and plate on the axle because the threads weren't long enough when you removed the lift block. I just bought the 6400 and 2WD u-bolts so I didn't have to use spacers.
  19. I didn't know there was a 3" drop shackle. I thought there was only a 2" and to get 3" you remove the block. Most have to flatten the bed seam to fit the 2", so how tight is the 3"?
  20. If you stick with the stock manifolds and cats, I would go 3030, but if you plan on headers, go XL. Stock, the 3030 sounded just about perfect.
  21. Sorry. I meant chock the front tires so the truck doesn't roll away when you jack the rear tires off the ground. Safety first....
  22. SouthPawCO that second video is mine. I have been testing several different mufflers because I'm really picky and hoped the videos would help others make their decision. With the stock manifolds the Jones 3030 sounded awesome, but with headers I felt it was a little too raspy, so I tried a 3030 XL and it is about perfect. Good choice and good luck.
  23. I took the main hitch bolts out, and left the rear mounted to the bumper. I then loosened the rear two bolts on each side almost all the way that bolt the bed to the frame. I took the lower shackle bolt out as I pulled down on the hitch a bit fitting the bolt through the cutout in the hitch bracket. Next I jacked the rear end up using the leaf spring against the seam to lift the bed as well until I could tap the bolt out above the frame. It was tight, but it came out. Maybe I bent the seam slightly by doing this which gave me clearance, but it looks straight still and I didn't have to flatten it. This is just how I did it and remember to chalk the front tires and use jack stands. Good Luck.
  24. I got it aligned today and he performed a reset of the steering sensor and my stabilitrak is working fine. The ride is a lot nicer with these struts compared to the stock Ranchos.
  25. Yes. It is A 4X4 Z71. I used Belltech 25004 Drop Struts to get 2 inches lower in the front and Belltech 6400 2"drop shackles to drop the rear followed by removing the factory lift blocks. Here is how it sits right now.
