Don't knock the 3.5L ecoboost. Faster and better towing than than the 5.0. Also faster than the 5.3L. -

I don't like them as much visually either. But you can get a Lariat "Sport" that has same color bumper, grill, door handles, etc. -

I had put adhesive sound deadener all around the steering boot and firewall. No help. -

KBB average trade was $40k. They have me $38k. Like I said, same number at 3 difference places. If you were buying new, you could get a thousand or two more. -

I traded my 2017 SLT 4x4 Premium Plus with 16.5k miles on it for about $6k less than I bought it for. Ford gave me what RAM and Carmax offered too. I actually ended up in a 2015 Ford F150 FX4 Lariat, completely loaded, 44k miles, 100k mile powertrain and bumper to bumper warranty, Ford certified. I basically only added tax, tag and title to my debt to do that. -

Well gentlemen, after listening to my truck sound like something was going to rattle loose from the engine bay every time I towed or went on the highway (not to mention the typical marbles in a can during any and all other acceleration), I took it in for service again. The technician "didn't hear anything". Manager asked if I wanted to drive along with the tech, to which I replied "that won't matter, you can't fix it anyways". I then proceeded to give the service manager a piece of my mind explaining that I think GM has a major issue on their hands with the variable displacement V8s. Long story short, I got rid of my engine rattle/tick. Ford dealer gave me a nice trade in. I'm sure there is a litany of issues with Fords as well, but an obnoxious, unfixable engine sound is not one of them. Good luck to all of you! -

Fords seem so expensive to get a comparable trim package, at least where I live. Plus I hate the interiors. I was ready to pull the trigger on trading in my GMC for a 2018 RAM earlier this summer, but it was built so poorly I couldn't do it. Inside and outside was chintzy. Although the engine sounded nice... -

Mine is constant the past 2 weeks, and most of the summer honestly. I'm currently at 15,500 miles. Doesn't matter how long I drive, or going over bumps. I've gotten it to go away temporarily if I brake really hard, but even that isn't working lately. The only time I don't hear it is while going around left hand turns. Mine basically did the light ticking in V4 mode since day 1. But I bought it in June in the south, so had the AC and cooled seats on full blast and covered up the noise. Now it is a full fledged rattle/marbles in a can during any application of the throttle. I can replicate the buzzing rattle in park or neutral. I really need to take mine in again to the dealership just to complain on record, even though I know they can't/won't fix it. Waiting for boating season to be over so I don't need a tow vehicle before taking it in. -

If there is a fix, I wish they'd let us know. I'll pay for it myself. -

Ticking drives me insane. I told my wife I was gonna do the same, basically trade in my truck for an old beater. She said "you have a beater now". At least the interior of my current truck is nice. Maybe some knobby tires will drown out some of the god awful engine sounds it makes. -

My steering boot and connection to the firewall has been covered with sound deadener since May. Noise still there. It isn't that. -

I've run a few tanks of premium and mid grade, and have noticed no difference. Also did a Sea Foam flush in the intake and the tank. No difference. I don't believe it to be fuel detonation related. My sound has been as bad as ever lately (even with the Sea foam and higher octane fuel). While towing my boat, it sounds like the engine is going to rattle through the hood. Loud enough for my oblivious wife to actually hear it. I was towing last weekend and had to make a hard stop. When I pulled away the sound had disappeared. Sounded like a normal truck for the rest of the drive home. I've also noticed that I can't heard the sound while accelerating during a turn, but when I straighten out it comes back. I can't see how an intermittent sound can be caused by low octane fuel. Maybe the sound is always there, and I only hear it when something settles into place in the driveline and causes some harmonic vibration. Either way, it's very irritating. Might be time for some Dynamat all over the floor and firewall. Anyone know how to get some actual GM people to look at these threads? I've seen them pop in on other forums and offer to "help". This seems like a big enough issue for them to be paying attention to. -

Be careful with that PCV screw. It's weak aluminum. I sheared mine off this spring while attempting to tighten it. No improvement with a new, tightened screw. -

I ran a tank of premium a month or two ago and had no change in the noise. Seems strange that a noise that can be initiated/stopped with a turn or a bump if fuel related. But none the less I did a seaform treatment this weekend. Since the air intake was slightly loose on the throttle body while spraying the can of seafoam in, I had an extremely rough idle and "low power" light on the dash. The engine was shaking around pretty bad, and would make a rattle/clatter sound on the lower driver's side of the engine. Seemed to sound similar to the noise we hear inside. But I might just be grasping at straws here. I put seafoam in the tank too. And will run a higher octane the next few tanks. But as I said, because the noise is intermittent, I am doubting it is related to fuel quality. -

I have the same noise issue, the sewing machine/rattling can chug/tick, etc when I apply moderate throttle. Worse in V4 mode. Mine also has a buzzing that accompanies it, which I can hear in park if I rev the engine. They both come or go together. -

Tried premium, no difference. And I'm in the same boat, bumps or turns can make the sound stop. See my post Saturday about being able to stop the noise while in park by turned my wheels all the way to the left. -

Gonna bring this back on track.... So my tick/chug/rattle/buzz, i.e. marbles in a can noise still occurs more often than not. Went to run some errands yesterday. Did it the whole time for the first two stops. Ran into a store for 5 minutes, started my truck back up, and no noise for the 5 mile trip home. Started it this morning, same noise again. When I can hear the marbles in a can while driving, I also have a buzzing sound that accompanies it. I always get both, or neither so I assume they are basically the same thing. I can hear the buzzing when the truck is parked, most audible at 2000rpm. So I did an experiment today. Revved it up in the driveway to 2000rpm, and turned the wheels from lock to lock. At full turn to the left, the noise when away. Turn it back any at all, buzz comes back. Had my wife do the revving and turned with my head under the hood and couldn't hear any difference. I am no further along in diagnosing the cause or the repair, but it seems more and more like it has to be something rattling. People have replaced the full exhaust and still have the sound, so it isn't that. Fuel feed line TSB didn't fix mine or anyone elses. My engine runs fine, and the sound is intermittent, so I doubt it is the engine. Turns and bumps can initiate, or stop the sound. Someone please figure this out! -

I think my neighbors are beginning to wonder why I come home everyday and open the hood of my 1 year old truck. Then crawl around under it while I have my 7 year old son rev the engine. -

I've tried. Problem is the sound isn't present at idle. Those engines make so many noises, it's hard to track things down. Everything to me sounds like it's vibrating. Vacuum pump, fuel line, etc. I had the fuel feed pipe replaced to no avail. I've settled on the fact that it is a rattle somewhere, because I can go over a bump and the noise stops for a while. When the weather cools down a bit, I am going to tap around under the truck to try and locate things. Also planning to dynamat the driver floor and firewall inside. One thing I've read on these forums kinda makes sense as a culprit, and its the starter not fully retracting and bouncing off the flywheel. This could be intermittent, and initiated/stopped with bumps. -

I just went and test drove a 2018 Ram 1500 Midnight Edition, and was not impressed at all. The interior fit and finish was terrible. Lacked a couple of features that I enjoy about my GMC. That truck had a sticker of $55k, with $11k in rebates. About the same as what my GMC was last year. They didn't low ball me on the trade offer, but I don't think it's worth taking a $7k hit to buy a newer truck that isn't nicer (but will at least not make that noise). Might be time to bolt on a cat back exhaust and mask some of the ticking, and have my wife buy something bigger than an IS250 to take the family on road trips (cant crank up the stereo when the kids are asleep in the back). -

I like the Rams a lot. Ford's for some reason is way expensive with a lot less features. Quality is no better. I don't think GM cares or knows how to fix it. I've seen on Camaro and Corvette forums of people complaining of similar issues. I suspect it's some by-product of the direct injection, variable displacement engines. 95% of people don't notice stuff like this, so they won't fix it as long as the trucks keep selling. -

Same here. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but she doesn't drive it. I feel like I need to trade it in/sell it while it's still high value. Dealer trade KBB is only $4k less than I paid. Seems worth it for a year old truck. -

Dealer replaced the fuel feed tube and........no difference whatsoever. Guess I will go test drive some Fords or Rams. Can't deal with that sounds for the next 4-5 years I planned to own this truck. -

It really clicks at idle with the stethoscope, just can't hear it in the cab. There are several of those black braided flex hoses in the fuel system. Everywhere it make a bend they have one of them. I don't suspect that any of the rest of them have faulty/clicky check valves in them. -

In the cab, I don't really hear it at idle. I can sometimes hear the buzzing part of it when I turn the truck on and it revs up. I can hear it under light acceleration too. Slow speeds, cruising speeds, it doesn't matter as long as throttle is being applied. Much louder when towing my 5000lb boat. With the stethoscope, I could hear it at idle for sure. I made my son rev the engine for me and the clicking got faster, and above about 2000rpm it was a buzzing. The fits what I hear when the truck is being driven. Its more of a chugging at lower RPMs and a buzzing at higher RPM.
