  1. $4.21 USD for a US gallons in the french portion of the 51 first state ( Québec ) socialism is expensive ....
  2. If the filtered particles are smaller than the clearance inside the engine, why bother removing them? Im not buying into the micron race , I believe in preserving the flow rather than filtering out harmless particles... but hey, what do I know, lol.
  3. I'm older and maybe a bit cynical, but I've learned that being right doesn't necessarily make winning a battle any easier. When someone knows you're right but refuses to admit it, they can drag things out for years. Money isn't an issue for them, but for me, it's a different story. I completely understand your point. Here in Quebec, we have small claims court, which is a simple process, but it can take over a year to be heard. Even if you win, you're left to enforce the judgment on your own, which means more money for bailiff assistance. It's the same story at home with the wife.:-))
  4. Are you saying that wear can't be reduced by using a more viscous oil with a similar additive pack (to a point)? I'm not arguing, as I don't have the tools or knowledge, but if engineers recommend a W30, I personally prefer my oil to stay within that range and not drop below it. If that doesn't matter, why not just recommend a W20 from the start?
  5. I like to believe that the oil will have more chance to die as a 30 than as a 20
  6. that bother me that 0w40 is not recommended , Im maybe not rational but I like how this oil fit the winter and the hot summer month especially for a working truck
  7. Can you switch the transmission to L mode while driving at any speed? In L mode, do you have access to all 10 gears? Finally, if it works while moving, which gear will it be in—the one you're currently in or the last one you selected manually?Ive looked at the manual but its not clear for my limited frenchglish brain
  8. Chuck I fully understand you, im fighting with myself to let go. I have very little confidence when its time to have some work done by perfect stranger, im maybe naive but for the next 7 years max , its my truck but its their problem. Im far from being rich but i can afford to let go. Time will tell but ill be 73 when the truck will go away , whatever the result of my decision it wont have a big Impact On my future lol
  9. When i was doing the maintenance on my other vehicule i was also taking picture of my installation and product used including tools , ramp etc etc, a short video was also done while the oil was draining ... Who told you that i am paranoid ? ... I decided to take advantage of the 2 free oil change well 3 if i pay the fourth one just to play safe or just to take away some of their argument. Anyway i am not planning to keep the truck longer than the GM protection plan of 7 years or 100000km
  10. You nailed it I realized that my freshly paved driveway have all kind off mini slope to evacuate the rain toward ditch . My measurement were somewhat consistent since I was parking the truck almost at the same place everytime. We are going on a trip next week and I will have the chance to stop on a scale, here we have acces for free outside the spring season or during a surprise inspection for trucker. A scale should be perfectly level so Ill have the final verdict. So far the pictures sent by my dealer with the truck on the alignment pit are telling me that the truck is within gm spec .... 42 + - 1/2
  11. 1 1/2 is my mistake , but its definitly 1 inches ... the spec call for 42 + - 1/2 inches ... so Im really close to be level, the l/s is dead on 42 ... the other side 43 ... Im ok with that .... I prefer that then seeing them playing shimming or Gods know what, i have no drivability issue so all is good
  12. google it . that exist
  13. In my opinion, you can influence but not control how others perceive you. Whether you act like a saint or a bum, both versions will have their supporters. As long as you stay true to yourself, you'll have genuine and honest influence. Whether it becomes a good influence or not depends on no one else but you. Influence often drives people who can't think for themselves. Political surveys are a prime example—they guide the crowd wherever they want while making the crowd believe they're in control. Such surveys should be made illegal.
  14. I only fight when it's necessary now. Arguing to win a point or prove something no longer interests me. I realized long ago that changing people's mindsets, even with the best arguments, is nearly impossible. As the Greek philosopher Epictetus said: what depends on us is all that matters; we can't be held responsible for what others think of us. External events are determined by fate and beyond our control, but we can choose to accept them calmly and without emotion. If you want happiness, embrace things as they happen, not as you'd wish them to be. I work on this every day—it's not easy, but it's worth it. I think Im getting old
  15. It's a pleasure meeting new people here, and you’re included—for now, maybe, lol. Rest assured, I’m not a unicorn lover. I’m more of the paranoid type. From experience, I know you sometimes have to fight to get things done. Car warranties, home insurance, car insurance—it’s all the same. I’ve learned the less chance you give the vultures, the less chance you have of getting eaten. I prefer to involve them where it counts, and I’ll handle their attempts to dodge the bullet later. Luckily, we have a decent consumer protection agency to turn to if problems arise. My perspective changed a lot last year when I was stuck in McAllen, Texas, with my old F150. First, a bad torque converter, then a fully lit Christmas tree on my dashboard—it was a nightmare. Finding a decent shop and hoping for honest work at a fair price is no fun in a foreign country. Not all dealers are bad, for sure, but relying on a tow truck driver who "knows a guy" in some sketchy part of town really s...cks. So now my hope is that if the Sierra lets me down, I can always drop it off at the closest GM dealership and let them handle it. By sticking to their free maintenance for now, I’m hoping to make any future arguments easier. Is this naive? Maybe, but it’s the option I’ve decided to go with. Only time will tell if it was the right choice to make ...
  16. I'm French Canadian. well french from the soon to be 51 first state , not French from France—thank God! My humor is dark, cynical, and sarcastic, so "cute" definitely doesn't apply here. When it comes to material possessions, they used to matter a lot when I was younger. I went to trade school in '75/'76 to learn car mechanics, and I spent my life fixing locomotives, my cars, and just about everything else. Preventive maintenance was crucial, and no one else was allowed to touch my cars. These days, forget it. Life is short, and I'm done working hard just to save money, only to work hard again to protect that same money. I'm lucky enough to afford new things, and I have no intention of keeping my belongings forever. So, I decided to ditch the responsibility and leave it to the dealership. Anything that could mess up the basics, the powertrain, or the GMPP warranty is their problem now. As for the rest, I'll handle brakes and filters myself. I've read a few of your posts since yesterday to understand you a bit more, and now I'm convinced that if you'd wanted to be nasty, you'd have made it crystal clear—even for a French Canadian like me. An obese old man with a bald head once said. : the way to deliverance, and away from attachment to worldly mind objects and false delusions of self, is to see “the impermanence of all compounded things.” ... and the GMC Sierra HD is certainly really impermanent ... BTW the last part isnt from him ..... So have a great day vieux Bougon. :-)
  17. Grumpy, it’s obvious from my post that English isn’t my first language. Even with Google Translate, I couldn’t quite figure out if your post was sarcastic, dismissive, or something else , maybe I have completely missed the boat ? anyway si ce n,est pas le cas j'men calisse
  18. Well, I wish mine were like that, but it's not. Despite the fact that they put the truck on an alignment pit, it still looks higher on the right side to me. They sent me a picture of the truck on their ramp with a 3-foot bubble level on the rear bumper, and the bubble is dead center, so it must be an illusion, lol. Anyway, it's documented, and I have no drivability issues, so it is what it is. My tape measure must have been made in China since the front is dead on GM spec, as is the left rear. My only discrepancy is the rear right side being higher. That must be the Chevy lean I've read about on various sites. Thanks for sharing your measurements.
  19. Look again .. scroll down there is a few link on the documents outside the oil ... I wonder why this reaction from a few members here ?
  20. I appreciate your suggestion guys however like i've said im not planning to keep the truck longer than the warranty period, so GM will have to live by the oil life monitor or they will have to pay through their power train or GMPP warranty if the engine blow up.btw i am much more concerned by the tranny and the valve body. My service advisor said that 3 out of 10 truck have a chance to suffer from The stupid valve body, and the parts are still kind of rare
  21. Oh, I’m done thinking about it, lol. I was just curious since some manufacturers have different specs for the same equipment depending on the region. The dealership will handle those oil changes—it’ll be the first time in my life I’m not climbing under one of my vehicles to do maintenance. I decided to go with GMPP to cover myself for 7 years or 62,000 miles bumper to bumper, so they can’t deny a warranty claim if the engine explodes, lol. Plus, I’ve got 3 free oil changes, enough to cover 3 calls from the oil life monitor. I don’t plan to keep the truck beyond the warranty period, whether by time or mileage.
  22. This is new to me, and I’m not sure I like it. On a few occasions, the system kicked in and applied the brakes very roughly for no reason. Anyway, I have a question about how the braking system works with Adaptive Cruise Control on long descents. To maintain speed when engine braking is insufficient, the system uses the brakes. I’m not sure I like this, as I’m worried about losing braking power due to overheating. This is my first vehicle that relies on the brakes when the engine alone can’t maintain speed. Is this the usual behavior of this system?
  23. The truck will be back tomorrow. According to the verdict, it falls within GM spec. The advisor sent me the GM diagnostic procedure with all the measurements, and my left rear, front left, and right sides are spot on. However, according to MY measurement the rear right is outside the spec. The rear should be 42 inches ± 1/2 inch, but my rear right side is 1 to 1 1/4 inches higher than the left side. They assured me they took their measurements on their alignment pit and confirmed the truck is square, so there’s not much they can do. I’ll double-check tomorrow, though I’m pretty sure the truck isn’t square. Even if I’m right, they can’t lower the rear—raising is possible, but lowering isn’t. Anyway, I’ll leave it as is; it’s not a big deal since the truck tracks straight and everything else is fine.
  24. Not about the oil weight and you knew that ..., but take a look at the documents—there's some interesting information there. Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way diminishing the participation and help I've received from the members. This forum is a fantastic place for PU truck owners.
  25. Z45, you are the man !!! Thanks for this document its really appreciated, thats my kind of reading , ill subscribe to your montly letter
