  1. You have to do the software update on the HMI unit. You do not need to replace the HMI unit you just need to update the software which Hass to be done by the dealer.
  2. I’m unsure on the part number, I’ll have to check my paperwork it’s out in the truck. I had mine replaced on a 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 and I haven’t had any problems with it. I do know it takes the shark fin and the HMI to be replaced and updated at the same time because the HMI you need to have the software compatible with the shark fin. If it’s not updated on the HMI the software will not recognize the new shark fin and you’re still keep getting the same problems over and over and over again. I took my truck to 2 different dealers before somebody finally realized what was going on. Prior to this update on the HMI mine was stock from 2016. The software that I had on my radio/HMI computer unit was all from 2016 so when they replaced the shark fin nothing worked without the HMI update in the new software bundle it will not work. It Hass to be matched to your Vin number. I’ll check my paperwork in the morning and re-post to see if it’s anything close to what your I05 is.
  3. Dash483 & Bert, after replacing the Shark Fin you MUST get the HMI Update in order to complete the fix. The HMI Update is done at the dealer and only cost $125. Once that is done you’ll have to contact Onstar for them to reactive and SiriusXM to update if your using them. Once that’s done you should not have anymore issues
  4. Hey guys, my 2017 Silverado 1500 LT was doing exactly the same problem that everybody else on here has been talking about where the Radio starts jumping, the main screen freezes up, it’ll make phone calls all on its own without being prompted, Basically acting like it’s totally possessed. Once you get to the dealer you will have to have them do an HMI update and possibly replace with a shark fin. According to OnStar and GM, if the shark fin is not replaced that’s what’s causing the radio to act possessed and the HMI update needs to be completed so that way the computer recognizes the radio and the shark fin to your vehicle Vin number. Most of the dealers for some reason I’ve never heard of this problem. Most dealers will do what they call a hard reset, which is nothing more than disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery waiting 10 minutes and then reconnecting it. That’s why I stress you have to get them to do the recent HMI update. I personally ran into this problem with two different dealers. Once I had the shark fin replaced in the HMI update done I have not had one single problem with my radio, satellite GPS positioning, OnStar, or my phone individualphone calls or Apple CarPlay or Android play either. In fact, the dealer that did the replacements and the HMI update wrote me out a receipt and I took it back to the original dealer and got my money back for The labor and the parts. Good luck to everyone hope this helps my radio has been working like brand new straight from the factory ever since this was completed.

  6. Bert, I will have to look at my paperwork because my extended warranty covered it all except for my deductible but I do know it was approximately $100 for the HDMI Upgrade and approximately $400 for the Shark Fin replacement.
  7. You have to contact OnStar to actually disconnected along with the Wi-Fi. However, I believe it’s not OnStar or your Wi-Fi is the problem it is your shark fin. My vehicle is doing the same thing along with jumping screens and radio channels and I had to get a HMI upgrade download it along with replacing my shark fin and now my truck works perfect like it was brand new.You have to contact OnStar to actually disconnected along with the Wi-Fi. 8. My 2017 Silverado 1500 has been doing roughly the same thing for the last three or four months I have took my truck to the dealer had the radio replaced along with the screen also had a hard restart done to the electrical system and I still have the same problem. Just took it to another Chevy dealer and they found that my shark fin was malfunctioning causing my GPS to not work with OnStar along with the fact my HMI unit needed an upgrade. The HMI unit had not been upgraded since the day it was put into the truck from 2016. So almost guarantee you need to have an HMI upgrade and maybe the Shark Fin replaced to fix your truck. Mine has now been working great for a week since I got my HMI update and the Shark Fin replaced.
  9. I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 LT with 53,000 miles and it seems like we are all having the same problem at approx 45,000 miles or so. I had mine into the GM Dealer twice for the same issue however, by this time it was jumping between my driver information center and the radio so finally my extended warranty replaced my touch screen and the radio unit. It worked great for 2 days and then it's right back to the something again so I called the dealer and they told me to bring it back and they did a hard reset (supposedly). It lasted 35 miles and it's right back to the something again. So I thought what the hell, maybe it's my iPhone USB cable so I changed it out and then my iPhone started do the something as my truck so I have now changed out my iPhone today. I am so done. My Truck radio screwed up my iPhone and I am still no closer to fixing this issue. So, I will now check to see if the digitizer could be it. I have already replaced everything I can think of, tighten all the ground cables, and taken to the GM Dealer with still the same issue. I have even checked for codes on my ODB II and FIXED and get none. OUT OF IDEAS and PATIENCE..
