  1. No ac, out of freon, looks like condenser is leaking from the tack weld like most, looks like an easy enough DIY, anything to look out for while doing it? Also will most aftermarket parts be reinforced in this area or any specific brands to buy (in Canada). Love my GMC but I'm quickly working my way through the list of common failures...
  2. Yep, they are doing chain and tensioner at same time.
  3. I get what your saying but if it starts making noises it's already too late to save it... Seems unlikely normal wear would be enough to make a 10psi difference. It's only got a 140k on it. If it was 250k miles I'd be less concerned about it. I ended up telling them to go ahead with it. Will see if it improves.
  4. It's getting worse though which is what concerns me, it never used to drop below 20psi (1/4) on gauge, down at the 1/8th mark now (10psi). When would you start to be worried if it continues to get worse? 5psi?
  5. 2017 sierra 5.3 with 230k kms/ 140k miles. Oil pressure when hot drops to 10 psi at idle. Spikes back up as soon as you hit the gas. It's always dropped low to like 20psi since new but seems to be getting worse very gradually. At highway speeds it's up around 35-40psi. If I step on it it will jump up to 60 or so. Local shop is recommending oil pump replacement which is a pretty pricey job. Anything else this could be before we go ahead? They checked with a mechanical gauge and otherwise the pressure seems correct so don't think it's a sensor issue....
  6. 2017 GMC Sierra 5.3L 4x4. Active grill shutter failed at 220k kms. I replaced with a Dorman part from Rock auto, 225k kms and its failed again. First time I just had code U1510, this time I got code P059F and U1510. Initial replacement went fine other than breaking one of the clips getting the trim piece off the front to take the grill out... The shutter itself fit well, didnt have to force anything, all seemed free. It immediately fixed the code and worked fine for a couple of months. Question: could there be anything else causing these to fail or did I just get unlucky? Have they fixed the OEM part or am I better off buying another aftermarket part for 2/3 the cost? Last any tips for getting the trim piece under the grill/headlights off without breaking the remaining clips....
  7. 2017 Sierra 6 speed 5.3l 4wd. Has developed a clunk/thud at takeoff. 205k kms. Has a 2.5" rough country level that's been on there for about 90k. It's only from a dead stop. If I hold the brake and rev it a bit in drive and let off I get a similar thud. Not sure if it's the same though. Locked in it a gear and tried to get it to clunk at speed but it won't do it. Torqued the rear ubolts and leaf mounts to spec. All seemed tight, clunk still there. Anything else I should be checking? It had the leaf spring tsb done under warranty, this is definitely not the same noise. Seems like slack in the driveline. Transmission was rebuilt at 155k under warranty after torque converter let go, hoping it's not something in there... Motor mounts, sway bar?
  8. Dealer got back to me yesterday. Shavings on the dipstick so they said it needs a new trans, waiting on GM to approve the warranty claim now is what I'm told.
  9. Truck was shuttering a little, almost felt like it was slipping saturday driving in the city, highway fine. Sunday morning there's a whine from the front of the trans at idle. 5 mins down the road the trans/engine revs are jumping all over the place catching and slipping or shuddering till eventually something let go and it starts to coast with the engine reved up. No movement in any gear, engine revving fine, just no power being transmitted in fwd rev or low. Gets towed to the dealer sunday and monday they say its moving fine at least in the lot, they haven't looked into it further yet. Any ideas on what would cause this? It wouldn't even try to move and the next day its moving fine. Also any TSBs with the torque converter or 6 speed trans that might be related? If it is the torque converter do they rebuild the trans as well or just try to flush the debris out? Fortunately its still under warranty (just) but, I like to be informed. Also don't want the trans to go 20k down the road when its out of warranty because it was contaminated. Truck has 145K KMs on it.
