I would love to learn more about doing this. I've done plenty of my own repairs in the last 30+ years on all of my vehicles - from brakes, to head rebuilds, to complete engine replacement. But I've always looked at chipping or reprogramming/tuning as just asking for trouble... How could I get it more right than umpteen teams of engineers and millions of $$$ in research??? Now I'm wondering if this might be a better solution for this particular problem.
I was dealing with this vibration issue myself on a 2016 Yukon XL with less than 70k. Shuddering at about 1100rpm when in 6th gear going between 35-45mph and AFM in V4. More subtle at other speeds but pronounced at that speed. Brought it to the dealer back in September '21, they had it for a month and gave it back to me saying there was no problem. FFS. In fact, none of the problems & issues I described were addressed and they just said - "It's functioning normal."
Less than 4,000 miles later the transmission went out completely.
I decided to bring it to a different dealer where they replaced the tranny under warranty and I just got it back last week. It's doing the exact same thing but now it's way more pronounced. That low speed shudder around 40mph is extremely disconcerting. Brought it in to them this morning and they say there's nothing they can do. "That's just how it is."
Decided to drive it in "M5 mode" from now on unless I can find another solution. Previous vehicle to this was an '09 Suburban LT that I drove more or less problem free except for expected wear & tear for 250k which is why I bought the Yukon. This issue and the company's refusal to adequately address it has me questioning my loyalty to the GM brand.
