  1. I’m pretty sure the only state limited to 55MPH is California, and even that isn’t enforced.
  2. We’re not retired yet either, we travel for a living . No idea what we will do when we retire
  3. most we’ve ever driven towing in a day was 1000 miles, and that took about 16 hrs. We had some unexpected delays and were stuck 1000 miles from where we needed to be the next day. We needed to be at my wife’s mom’s wedding… 1000 miles towing in the Northeast is way too much! Out west it’s a lot easier to cover ground, with way less driver fatigue since you’re not dealing with as many distractions on the road. With some well planned routes 5 hrs on the road is when I “start” to stop having fun, 2 to 3 hrs is perfect. We travel full time though so we technically have the time. With that said even we have to get places sometimes, so 10+ hr days on the road happen a few times a year.
  4. You don’t have to convince me, we prefer to travel in our RV , we don’t fly free though, and there’s 4 of us still I grew up in Gorham but lived in Windham for 15 ish years until we hit the road. Skied Shawnee Peak every year, and took the locks up into Long lake many times from Sebago. the only I thing I do differently in our drive is I hit 290 between 90 and 495. I don’t think that route adds much if any miles vs 95 the whole way up. Could be wrong though… enjoy your trip! Will be on our way up into Nova Scotia next week! Hopefully I will a new truck before the end of the year to drive around the country with! We’re currently in 15, 2500 Denali with the Duramax . It’s been a great tow vehicle, we’ve circled the country several times including Alaska with it. We have 153k on it, but looking forward to what the new 24 has to offer! *photo Mount Denali with the Denali
  5. We like our back up camera! We have the furion . We have the side marker cameras as well, to monitor blind side tail swing in tight situations on the road. As far as a helper goes for backing up, just get on speaker phone with her, have her reference you to turn towards “driver” or “passenger” similar to why boats use port and starboard. Only go as fast as you would want to hit something . as far as RV plans, things are up in the air still this year.. we will most likely end up in Prince Edward Island, we’re currently on Sebago (not far from where you will be in Naples) . After that we will make our way west, maybe come down through Canada into Michigans UP (glacier/Yellowstone/Utah) then possibly the PNW before making it back down to Florida for winter. That festival sounds fun! I Went to A school down in Pensacola but other than that we haven’t explored the gulf shores in our RV very much. We have Family in Rome outside of Atlanta so we’re in that area pretty often.
  6. Have you driven up there before? The roads are pretty bad vs Atlanta. Get on 84 In Pennsylvania and take it all the way through Hartford. The further you stay from the coast the better, cheaper tolls, “better” roads , less traffic. Watch the cars/trucks ahead of you and how they react to bumps . Be prepared to slow down fast sometimes. 3 days is good and “normal” we would probably do it in 2 but I have also done it in 1 (not recommended) . 400 miles is reasonable in a day, but when it’s time to get somewhere I like to do more. When we do long hauls we generally stay at Walmarts in more rural areas . It’s easy to pull in at night and you have the freedom to go as far as you feel like going vs a reservation at a campground. We use the “AllStays” app to find Walmarts that allow overnight parking and to read “reviews” about the parking lot. We also have a Grand Design TT and have been full time in for over 5 years. Enjoy Maine, it is our home state !
