I had this problem intermittently and it drove me crazy. I believe that the electronic harness for the camera connects with the bed light on the cab (in addition to backup lights). The bed light seal erodes over time and water gets in there. Its an easy fix, but I did notice water stains on the ceiling of the cab right under the light. When it rained, the camera would work off and on as it dried. Since I fixed the light, I have not had a problem. By the way, I did have it looked at by the dealership and they could not explain what was causing the issue, but of course the camera operated correctly upon their inspection.
