  1. Some of these comments on this forum are not accurate. The active grill shutter in the 2014 - 2018 SIlverado/Sierra 1500 is controlled via the ECM to open and close at specific times when the vehicles needs immediate airflow ..to start in any kind of weather and or with the remote start if you have it. Not only is the radiator in these K2 model trucks small and insufficient but they tend to get clogged and were designed to cool the engine to remain around 210 degrees and operating with the conjunction of v4 mode AFM etc. Personally I have disabled that by removing it, installing Ls7 lifters, trays, CAM etc. The truck has been great since then. Recently I have noticed my truck having cool issues as well. Here is what I have realized - my active grill shutter has an issue and or short. There is the P code sent the ECM and the remote start will not function because the ECM does NOT see the grill shutter being within its network of Sensors. With that being said, I also noticed that the grill shutter gets stuck in these constant loop of opening and close CONTINIOUSLY. Equating to the shutter being open half of the time and closed half of the time. ADDITIONALLY, the air box/air filter -- whatever you want to call it pulls air from this shutter as well! Via the side of the passenger sides wheel well. IF this shutter is closed and or stuck in a loop like mine is THEN your engine air filter AND engine radiator are ONLY pulling air from the hot engine cab and NOT ambient temperature air it needs to cool sufficiently. I have unplugged this active shutter during the spring and summer months to allow the shutter to stay open ALL the time so that it cools constantly at its maximum capability via the air that enters the front of the truck. These 5.3/6.2 engines DO NOT have trouble getting to 210 degrees temperature on their own organically so I think this shutter is a stupid design in itself except for in the winter when you use your remote start and or the engine does need a little helping getting to operating temp - 190 - 210 degrees. Do what you want, but my 5.3 2018 Silverado 1500 has a functional Stage 2 Dirt King Lift, LS7 lifters/CAM, Monster Transmission, Added External Transmission cooler, S&B intake, exhaust, and 33s with no V4 mode. Having the shutter open ALL the time makes it cool efficiently. Has eliminate detonation and cause the transmission and engine to run WAY cooler overall. Cheers
