  1. The cap is great and quite a bit cheaper than the options that have more marketing behind them. Just wanted to share a unique brand of bed cap with the group. These are ~$1,800 which is far cheaper than the fiberglass tops and the very similar REI Smart Caps. The website looked sketch, but once it arrived, I was impressed. Here is a full review and video. Part 1: Unboxing, Assembly, and Installation Guide Shipping and Unboxing After a three-month wait, the Titan Overland Expedition Cap finally arrived. It was delivered via a box truck in a massive, 440lb wooden crate. As seen in the footage, the crate is secured with metal tabs that need to be pried straight to release the lid. Tip: Be careful not to lay the crate down on the unopened tabs, or they become inaccessible. Use a claw hammer to work your way around. Initial Impressions: The packaging was solid. Layers of foam protected the glass and finish. The roof piece is the first thing you see—it is significantly heavier and more awkward to handle than expected. Assembly Process The instructions provided by the manufacturer were for a slightly different revision of the cap (slot and tab system), whereas my unit relied on a bolt-together flange design. The Seal Mod: The kit comes with standard seals, but I highly recommend upgrading. I purchased adhesive-backed neoprene rubber strips to place between the metal-on-metal flanges. Technique: I used alcohol wipes to prep the surface, applied the neoprene, and then used a Phillips screwdriver and a mallet to punch clean holes through the rubber for the bolts (as shown in the assembly photos). Step-by-Step: Base Assembly: I assembled the front panel, side panels, and rear door frame on the floor first. Roof Install: The roof has tight clearances. I had to use a rubber mallet to gently tap the tapered rear end into place. Once seated, the bolt holes aligned perfectly. Waterproofing: Even with the neoprene, I applied a ring of sealant around every roof bolt hole before tightening to ensure no water ingress. Installation on the Truck Lifting: This unit is heavy (approx. 440 lbs). We staged it on sawhorses first to apply the primary bulb seal to the bottom flange. You need at least four people to lift this safely onto the truck bed. Clamping: Once centered on the bed rails, securing it was the easiest part. The system uses 6 heavy-duty C-clamps. Hand-tighten them first to ensure alignment, then torque them down. Time: Actual time to clamp it to the truck was only about 8 minutes. Part 2: Comprehensive Review – Titan Overland Expedition Pro Cap Vehicle: Chevy Silverado 2500 HD Z71 Ownership Time: 1 Month The Buying Experience Ordering a large truck accessory directly from China can be nerve-wracking, but my experience with Titan Overland was excellent. I communicated frequently with their rep via email/WhatsApp regarding the shipping delays. They were responsive, transparent about the sea freight timeline, and provided tracking once it hit the US. Aesthetics and Design Visually, this cap transforms the truck. The angular, stainless steel construction looks aggressive and functional, matching the rugged lines of the 2500 HD perfectly. The matte black powder coat is consistent, and the smoked glass windows are extremely dark, offering great privacy for gear stored inside. It looks nearly identical to the RSI SmartCap but costs less than half the price. Sturdiness and Durability This is not a flimsy fiberglass shell. It is built like a tank. Construction: The stainless steel panels feel bulletproof. There is absolutely no rattle when driving, even over rough terrain. Struts: The gas struts on the side gull-wing doors and the rear hatch are powerful. They hold the heavy steel doors up with authority—no sagging. Security and Functionality Locks: The cap features dual locking mechanisms on all three opening panels. The latches operate smoothly, and the peace of mind knowing my recovery gear and tools are behind locked steel is invaluable. Critique: The internal locking cam is a bolt head with a relatively small surface area hitting the striker. While it works, I worry about long-term wear. This is one small area where the engineering could be refined. Weatherproofing Living in an area with snow and rain, water tightness was a major concern. The Verdict: It is 95% waterproof. I took it through a high-pressure car wash as a stress test. The neoprene seal modification I did between the panels held up flawlessly—no leaks at the seams. The Weak Spot: There was very minor water intrusion near the hinge mechanisms on the side doors, but nothing that soaked the bed. Tailgate Seal: Surprisingly, the rear hatch seal creates a tight friction fit against the tailgate, keeping the rear largely dry and preventing the tailgate from popping open freely. Pros: Price: Unbeatable value. You are getting a stainless steel overland cap for a fraction of the domestic market price. Durability: heavy-duty construction that feels like it will outlast the truck. Looks: Sleek, "overland" aesthetic with high-quality smoked glass. Access: Side doors make accessing gear in the front of the bed effortless. Cons: Weight: At 440 lbs, it eats into your payload and is difficult to remove if you need an open bed. Assembly: The instructions were outdated, and assembling it requires patience and a few custom tweaks (like the rubber seals) to get it perfect. Final Verdict If you are handy enough to manage the assembly and want a high-security, rugged bed cap without spending $4,000+, this is an absolute no-brainer. With a few minor DIY improvements during the build (better rubber seals), it performs like a top-tier product. Rating: 9/10
