  1. Hi, I bought an old 2008 duramax 3500hd 4x4 crew cab dually as a farm truck. I'm having trouble getting it registered properly. I believe it was a salvaged title and someone swapped a 2500 SLT body on the 3500 frame. Now my GVWR doesn't show it's heavy enough to be classified as farm use in my jurisdiction. Can someone tell me what the GVWR of this truck would be? From my research I think it's around 13,000 lbs. Thanks, Tobin
  2. Nice looking Truck. I like the white wheel well trim instead of black. What colour did you paint your rims? I have an elevation so mine are all black. I find they don't contrast well in certain light and look cheap.
  3. I can't see it being transmission related because of the audible change that occurs in V8 versus V4 mode. My tick is 10 times worse and more noticeable in V4 mode. Its almost like the some of the valves are of activating when they should be shut down? I also get the noise when pulling hard with a trailer sometimes in V8. i might try a heavier weight oil next oil change.
  4. Mines been happening since month 8 of ownership. I’ve had all my AFM collapsible lifters replaced. Sorry guys but it didn’t change a thing. i have 70,000km on it now and it’s 2.5 years old. It’ll be driven til it’s sold like this. It’s not worth wasting anymore time.
  5. Are you still satisfied with the steering shaft seal repair to solve the ticking V4 noise? I've had mine in multiple times and it's getting very frustrating! New fuel pump, new AFM lifters, and nothing fixes it.
  6. could this vacuum pump failure be the ticking noise a lot of us are hearing? http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/193570-2014-chevrolet-silverado-1500-engine-failure/page-4
  7. I did this last week and love it. unlock the doors with the fob now and the bed lights up! so easy. how did GM not have this option available in the vehicle settings. literally night and day difference!
  8. Yeah, i'll try leaving my AC off for awhile and see if i notice a difference. In canada now we don't need AC, but i have a habit of just hitting the Auto HVAC button.
  9. Isn't the AC compressor on the lower passenger side of the motor?
  10. That is true. that is exactly where mine seems to come from.
  11. Yeah, i've always thought exhaust too. but mine only happens now and then. that makes me think of the valve timing.
  12. That is what mines sounds like as well. I can rule out the fuel pump and lines. I've had this all replaced and no difference. My AFM valve lifters have been replaced as well.
  13. I can't stop trying to determine the noise in my motor at certain times. Since they replaced the AFM valve lifters, manifold, fuel lines and DI fuel pump, I'm starting to narrow it down to the variable valve train or the oil lubricating it. It only happens sometimes, under certain loads. that's why i'm leaning to the noise happening at certain valve timings. Since the seems to run fine, just has a loud knock sometimes, I'm wondering if this thin 0w-20 oil is too thin and causing these noises. When i start my truck in the morning the oil pump makes that groan that some people hear. Is anyone running 5w-20, 0w-30 or 5w-30 oil instead of the recommended 0w-20?
  14. I think my engine is ticking again. i've come to accept I've got a lemon of a truck. What a disappointing experience this whole thing has been. Sounds like there are multiple major issues with these trucks. My first brand new GM vehicle and I won't be rushing back. I've had lots of good used trucks from them. $50,000 and it makes we want to .
  15. My truck was in the shop 2 full days and the parts were $1896. Thank god for warranty.
  16. My engine was normal at idle and light load. but under load in V8 and V4 mode it started making a loud tick.
  17. You must have a different issue than my truck. My noise was not dependant on the AC on/off.
  18. Hi Paticus, They replaced the 8 valve lifters on the driver side bank of the motor along with all the gaskets and seals that go with that. By the look of the work order, they had to removed the cylinder head to do the work and also replaced the exhaust manifold on that side. If you add up the work order, it's pretty expensive. I should note that this noise was not the DI tick. my valves were definitely messed up. sometimes pulling a trailer up a hill i thought the valves were going to come through the hood. haha
  19. Hi MO, It has fixed the problem. I still get a slight DI noise but thats okay. The really deep tick noise is gone! Hope you can take this to your dealer and say that the valve lifters need replacement
  20. I think my truck is fixed!! My Truck went into the dealer on Tuesday morning for the Engine Tick. The tech explained to me that the AFM uses collapsable valve lifters acutated by oil pressure to shut off and turn on the 4 cylinders. He said sometimes they go bad and the valve lifters "tick". Two days in the shop and I got it back last night. So far so good! Fingers Crossed, but it seems that found the tick. I hope this helps everyone else figure out the noise they are experiencing.
  21. Stopped into my Dealer today and talked with two tech's. They are now going to replace the lifters in the truck. The tech said he knew as soon as he drove after the initial repair that the fuel pump didn't fix it and i'd have to come in and complain again. I wish they'd tell you all this stuff. i was pretty mad in between service visits. i hope the lifters fix the issue. I have an video of the noise. I'll try to clip it down and post it.
  22. I called my GM dealer and asked what is the next move into fixing the noise in my truck. They told me GM said the only bulletin out now to correct engine noise is a fuel pump replacement so thats it. I said this is unacceptable that the diagnostics stops there because someone in Detroit doesn't have a fix. She said come in and go for a drive with the tech's again. I hope to get in tomorrow. in the meantime, I think tonight i'm going to try to tape my iphone somewhere secure in the engine bay, and record the noise as I drive to see if I can hear it better from under the hood. Maybe it work. maybe it'll just be wind noise.
  23. Good idea on the video Paticus. I was thinking of a way to do that as well, but my noise only happens while i'm driving. Is your video filmed at idle? that sounds like mine at idle, which i think sounds fine. While I drive the truck makes a louder knock/tick now and then. V4 mode is the worst.
  24. Thanks, I forgot the cross pipe goes under the driver side.
  25. This sounds like my problem as well. If we are hearing the same noise, I can attest to how annoying it is. the dealer has replaced my fuel lines, fuel pump and still haven't fixed it. i said for day one it sounds like an exhaust leak but they are the experts. See this tread and see if it sounds familiar. http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/188701-engine-tick-2015-gmc-sierra-53/page-4?do=findComment&comment=1851252
