My brake lights stopped working intermittently. Now they are permanently out. Checked the bulb, good. Checked the wire, good. What could be causing this?

Reconnecting Center Brake Light after removing sports bar
McCoys posted a question in Ask the GM Technician
I bought a 2021 Silverado 1500 Trail Boss that had a dealer installed Sports Bar that had a center brake light integrated in the accessory. I removed the sports bar. I found instructions that I followed perfectly up until the part that re-connects the brake light wiring in the Delphi Connector under the passenger floor board area. Remember, the instructions I am using are for the installation of the sports bar - I am reversing the process. The instructions identify pin #39 to be the pin used for the center brake light on the truck. however, there is a wire already using pin #39. Remember, I'm reversing the installation so that #39 should be empty if the installation called for this pin to be used as the original factory integrated center brake light. The instructions do not identify a wire by color but the wire that is currently not connected is purple. (see pictures) I am only assuming this was the original wire that was connected to one of the pins (not #39) but I have no idea where it should now go. (if in fact it is the correct wire for the brake light) these are the instructions that I followed successfully up until #13 on about page 12/13 (the pages are not numbered). https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/files-27/1597173956_84571746.pdf any help is greatly appreciated. I have an 04 gmc Sierra Wt with a weird issue. it started when my battery went bad. i use the intermittent pin in the body-12 way-brown in the cab fuse block as an ignition driven accessory. the first thing i noticed was the accessory would only work every now and then. next the blower stopped working, the abs and brake likes came on, all at the same time. after messing with it all day here is the current issue. the abs and brake like come on when the blower speed control it set to any speed other then 0. when set back to 0 the abs and brake lights will turn off. the intermittent pin on the body-12 way-brown has low voltage and cant power my accessory. the constant power pin next to the intermittent pin has full 12 volts. I have checked every fuse and cleaned the ground on the forward driver side and the ground in front of the driver side suspension. I have also added 3 ground wires cab to battery frame to battery block to battery I am at a lose for what to do. Could it be a bad relay?

Hi, I have a 2005 Sierra Denali. When I got the truck from my uncle who was the original owner, the gauge cluster, which was brand new installed by GM did not illuminate the ABS and BRAKE lights. Everything else works. I pulled the cluster apart and tested that those LED’s work, and they do. I replaced the ABS pump unit because it was not functioning, and had the EBCM rebuilt. The ABS functions correctly now with the exception of those lights that have never been on since I got the truck. Even if I press the Parking brake/E-brake, the red BRAKE light stays off but it will ding at me if try to drive with it on, similarly, before I replaced the ABS pump, I got a message in the odometer screen saying “Service Brake System”, no lights from either. No fault codes. They don’t even come on when cycling the key, but all the other ones do. I’m at a loss. Can’t find any broken wires or bad grounds. Any help would be great. Thank you!

I know you can consider this to be dumb and dangerous, but i live in southern Mexico, and have to travel a lot at night. 2015 Chevrolet Silverado LS 1500 2WD, L83, 6L90. Long Story Short, i want to install a brake light/ tail light kill switch so i can drive through particularly dangerous zones minimizing the change of being followed. Anyone that can help me with that? Is there a way of installing a on-demand kill switch on a third gen, so i can drive only with my stock headlights? Thanks to anyone in advance

I'm working on an issue in another thread, but I came across something else that I thought might deserve a dedicated thread. I've been poking around in the rear heater lately, and then I went away for a bit. I guess I didn't connect the third brakelight connector. Anyone know where this is ? I've been looking, can't seem to find it. I'm sure I did something to knock it free or disconnected.

'Brake Light' and 'Service Brake System' illuminated o
cashflow50 posted a question in Ask the GM Technician
2003 GMC Yukon 4.8L 2wd SLE Just replaced my Brake Pads and Rotors on all 4 wheels yesterday. Bled the system with the vac connected to compressor and took the truck for a spin. Brake pedal too low and spongy, so there were still bubbles in the system. Instead of connecting the vac, I bled the system the 2 man old fashion way (pump pump pump and hold on the brake pedal). Started the bad boy up and the 'brake light' and 'service brake system' is illuminated on the DIC. Took it for a spin and had full stopping power. Brake engaged at minimal pedal press and wasnt spongy. The thing is what could have tripped the brake light and service brake system on the dic? My partner and I was baffled and tried googling if anyone knew how to reset or fix this. We spent about 2 hours trying to recreate the steps that we could've gone wrong, but everything looked good. Does anyone have a clue. Need help cause this is my wife's ride and wont use it unless I clear the codes. -prior fixes but might be unrelated- replaced ECBM in 2013 (ECBM repaired by Module Master) please help. Thanks. -
HELP NEEDED on an 03 GMC Yukon 1500 XL ABS & Brake lights on
Kcar75 posted a question in Ask the GM Technician
Hi, I have a couple of questions after spending 2 days trying to fix and nothing worked NEED HELP.. 03 GMC Yukon 1500 XL, battery died and replaced, after replacement two things happened 1. ABS, brake and traction control lights came on and won't go off. 2. HVAC completely quit .. not blowing air. Here is what I have done so far. ABS/Brake/TC lights - changed all fuses, checked and cleaned all grounds, pulled ABS control module and re-soldered the 6 spots related to ABS, re-installed. Had codes checked ... NO CODES SHOWN and all three lights still on. HVAC - changed out all fuses, replaced blower motor resistor, pulled blower motor and checked it and it works fine. After all of that, still NOTHING makes the heat or air come on. Any Ideas ??? I am needing to get my Texas inspection and they won't do it with brake light on ... -
99 Silverado with 190k miles - I've had this problem for 8 years or so but am finally determined to fix. Occasionally both brake light and ABS indicator lights come on at the same time. Brakes are fine and have been checked multiple times. Web search tells me I should replace Electronic Brake Control Module Motor Relay Circuit. Do you agree on solution? How difficult for a non-expert mechanic to perform? thanks, chris

Hi all, My 2001 Suburban 1500 (2wd) had both the ABS light and the Brake light come on last week. It happened when my son was driving it, and he claimed he was just "driving along, and both of the lights came on". I tried searching this forum, but couldn't find anything similar. However, I did find someone with the same issue a few years ago out on the Edmunds forum: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f1c66d7 My frugal side really wants to believe that it could be something as simple as a ground wire, mainly due to the fact that my unemployment benefits are running out in two weeks. Has anyone else encountered this before? Back around 2004/5, I replaced an ABS sensor on this same vehicle for about $1400, and I'm hoping that's not the issue again. For the record, the Suburban has right at 179,000 miles on it. Any input is most appreciated! --David
