Hello! Yesterday I acquired a 2003 Silverado with 140,000 miles on the engine. Today I was going over the truck and I washed out the bottom very thoroughly. Got a little bit of rust dust and some chips of undercoating off. I really went to town cleaning the underside. After this I took the truck for a little drive and started to get a flashing check engine light. The truck seemed to drive fine at speed but when I pulled off onto a side street it felt like it was misfiring a little bit, rough idle. I turned off the truck and turned it back on and the flashing CEL returned after a few seconds. I started to head back home and after about 30 seconds the light went away. I have driven it a few times since then and nothing has come back. I had nothing before washing out the bottom. What could be the cause of this? Thanks for all replies!
NEVER AGAIN A GM posted a topic in 2014 - 2018 Chevy Silverado & GMC SierraTruck Does Not Run Right...Tachometer Bounces...Hesitation from the start...Going up hills is Jumpy...Skips and Bucks, Feels like truck is Misfiring...Transmission shifts are consistently Rough and Random... Dealership confirmed the problem after test driving and they then found TSB #PIP5457C: Surge hesitation Chuggle Misfire Feeling With A Light Tip In - (Feb 10, 2017) which they believe match's the problem. The Dealership says GMC is aware of this (TSB #PIP5457C) the cause is unknown at this time. Do Not Know How Long It Could Take To Get A Fix. I called GMC customer assistance and requested a replacement or buyback they opened up a case number for me. They next day GMC customer assistance denied any kind of replacement, trade assistance, or buy back. Closed my case because they do not know what the cause is at this time and do not have a fix for the problem. I was told I must drive the truck (AS IS) until such time a fix is available. They also encouraged me to exercise the Lemon Laws in my state if I wished to pursue a replacement or a buy back. Extremely unhappy with my first GMC Truck and that's a shame because it’s a beautiful truck It just happens to be a Lemon that runs like Crap... Just keep driving (AS IS) is not what I paid for...I hope someone else has any insight to how to fix this problem. I hope others will post there concerns as well so we can get these trucks fixed or replaced...
Any help would be appreciated. I have a 2009 Silverado LS 4.8 V8 149,000kms (92,500 mi). This truck just started to idle a little rough or (rumble) while sitting at red light. it will do this in Drive but not neutral or park. If i rev it up its smooth until around 1400rpm then can hear and feel slight rumble. Can also hear rumble as i turn key off just as it quits. NO codes on truck checked with hand held scanner. Everyone online kept pointing me to EVAP issues. Ran emissions readiness test everything was clear except EVAP so i put in GM Vapor Canister Purge Valve / Solenoid #12597567. All items were clear! great right? not so fast, I cleared my scanner only to find out I shouldn't have because I now am having to run a bunch of "drive cycles" to reset everything. I have done this multiple times everything cleared up except EVAP which it did before and the truck still rumbles. Any ideas? is it EVAP or something different altogether? Here is my 2014 Sierra SLT Z71 crew cab cobalt blue metallic 5.3L. So far I have leveled it with a rough country 2" kit, 20% tints, tonneau cover, splash guards, and most recently swapped out my standard grille for the All-Terrain grille. I had the grille custom painted to match the truck. Just got the grille a few days ago and will have better pictures soon.
