Hello, Let me start by saying I have almost zero mechanical aptitude. Engines are magical beings to me that somehow have been transported into our world from a parallel universe by an alien race. I once thought I had to put oil into the engine through the dipstick hole... Hopefully that paints a clear enough picture... I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD that is having issues with switching in and out of 4 wheel drive. I took it to a mechanic and they told me the Transfer Case Control Module needed to be replaced as it was no longer communicating with... something, I seriously don't remember what exactly they said. I do remember they said it was going to be just over $500.. now numbers, I do understand; and that's a higher number than I am comfortable with. My truck's 4 wheel drive selection switch has 3 buttons (2wd, 4hi, and 4lo). The TCCM for the three button model is over $300, but the TCCM for a 4 button switch (auto 4wd plus my three) is like $160, much better for my numbers. Here is my question... If it's a stupid just scroll back up and read about the dipstick hole; Can I use the TCCM for the 4 button in my truck even though I only have the 3 button switch? Or can I use the TCCM for the 4 button switch and replace my switch with the 4 button switch? The back of the TCCMs appear to be the same, only 3 connector ports for the wiring harness, so I thought I'd ask. In case anyone is cringing over the thought that I might attempt this repair myself, take a breath, I'm going to pay a colleague at work to do the install and hopefully save a little money. Thanks, Chris

hello all, I am sure this issue has been beat to death multiple times, but I cant find the answer. I have a 2005 Silverado 1500 z71, I have had this issue for about 2 years now. the issue being that no matter what part I replace my 4wd wont reliably work. here is a list of what parts have been replaced. Drivers side wheel hub- twice Passenger Side wheel hub- three times Diff. actuator- twice 4 button switch on dash- once TCCM- once Transfer case motor- once So what is happening is, the dash will read service 4wd, i have taken it in to a shop where they have been replacing the parts, and i have come to the conclusion they are just throwing parts at it to find a fix. Every time they would replace a part it will work about 2-3 days but then give me the same service 4wd message. if i push one of the 3 4wd buttons on the switch the light will blink for a while then stop and it seems like it doesn't shift into 4wd. But i have crawled under the truck while someone else selects a 4wd button, I can hear and feel the transfer case changing into to 4wd mode. but the front diff actuator does not engage. I have checked and cleaned the ground wire under the drivers door twice but that doesn't seem to help. I am done throwing money at the shop to fix it, so this is my last resort. any help or ideas is greatly appreciated, Thank you,
