Hello, I just upgraded from my 2016 1500 SLT to a 2017 SLT 2500HD. The 2500 came with several accessories I don't need or would use, but it was a great price. One of the accessories is a Knapheide Kap truck cap. No windows, no side access doors. Just the rear door. I have researched everywhere I can think of and can't find any for resale and haven't found anyone that really knows what I might be able to sell this thing for. Does anyone on here have any ideas or info on: How much I may be able to sell it for? Where I may be able to list it for sale? … any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I can load pictures later. I don't have any at the moment. Thanks!

I posted this in the bed cover topic, but that was all about tonneau covers. I have a question on anyone with a topper. I got a Ranch Icon topper with keyless entry put on a few weeks ago and I'm not happy with it. Here are my issues: 1. The fitment isn't very good. The rear of the topper is tight to the truck like a glove, but as it approaches the front of the cab, it flares out about 1/2" (pic attached), so it's outside the profile of the truck and I think it looks tacky. Ranch says it is normal, the vendor says that the boxes on the 2014-2018 trucks varies a lot and that is why, but I don't buy it. 2. The vendor did a pretty poor install job on the harnesses, they spliced into my bed lighting wiring with compression splices and there was a wire just hanging down in the bed where most of the others were routed inside the bed rail. 3. I went to fix the wiring and put it in split loom to look better and when I lifted it up, I noticed the paint down the bed rail was chipped off where the topper met the bed in 4 or 5 spots, some over an inch long (pic attached). This really makes me mad because I don't plan to run a topper all the time and now my bed will surely rust if it isn't fixed. 4. The latch for the cap wouldn't fully engage on the left side (there are 2 stages to the latch, wouldn't get to the second stage). I brought it in and they fiddled with it and now that works, but it seems like that should work from the factory... (pic attached) 5. Water was leaking in. I know they may not be completely water tight, but it was pretty bad, dripping all down the cab side rail and in from the tailgate. When I took it in for the latch they put a couple more layers of cap tape on it to seal it better. So my questions are, for those of you running truck caps, which one do you have and do you have any fitment or quality issues? Are they nice and snug? Did your cap damage the paint at all? I'm going to call them and I'm thinking I'll return this thing if they will allow it. If they don't, I guess I'll be stuck taking legal action. And I need to get this paint fixed and they are going to pay for it.

Hi All, I picked up a used A.R.E. truck cap this last weekend. I have a few over night excursions, I'd like to attend and finding a decent motel with vacancies has been a problem. So, I decided to see what was available in the truck cap department. Of course finding a "cheap" used cap for a 2014 doesn't work. But, I did find a 2000 - 2006 era, A.R.E., 6.5', fiberglass cap of the right color on Craig's List. The caps seem to run from 2000/2006, 2007/2013 and 2014/2015. So, I wasn't optimistic about it fitting or not looking totally out of place. I don't know what the cost of a new cap is, but have heard, $1100 and up. My little beauty was settled on, at $275. I don't intend to keep it on, when I'm not needing it, so my next project will be a hoist to hang it in the barn. I've learned, the new tailgate shape is referred to, as a "whale tail". The cap door for the straight tailgates closed against the back of the tailgate. I believe, the new ones close to seal, on the top of the tailgate. So I cut the bottom of the aluminum off, below the handle, reversed the rubber seal and remounted the "sweep", up about 1" higher. Replaced the window screening and wired the third brake light ... Chevy makes that pretty easy, as the proper wire is in the rear by the spare tire. You can see, in the last picture, that the back door isn't closing properly ... that was before the modification.

John Goreham Contributing Writer, GM-Trucks.com 7/21/2015 The Topper EZ Lift from A.R.E. allows truck owners to raise the fiberglass cap over their truck bed with the push of a button. Powered by the truck's 12-volt battery, the Topper EZ Lift raises up the cap in just 30 seconds. It can lift up to 900 pounds. Once you are ready to pack up the lift lowers and makes a tight seal, automatically locking back in place. The idea is to use the additional space for a tent, or to access cargo without removing the top. The kit includes everything needed for a DIY project, or A.R.E can refer shoppers to an authorized installer. A.R.E. also has accessory items like the tent with screened side windows shown in the photo.

I've searched through this forum, and have not found a thread that answers my question. Looking for opinions based on experience for a truck cap purchase. My new truck is a 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 WT, regular cap, 8 foot bed. I need a cap, and cannot find a dealer around here that has any stock to look at. Just brochures. I had a Leer on my 1996 truck that served me well for 16.5 years. I am leaning towards Leer. There is a coupon on their website that is good until March 4th for up to $100 off. Local dealer sells Swiss. Looks okay, but only have the brochure. I used to have an A.R.E. in the early 90's. it was fine but not as nice as the Leer I mention above. My brother has a Ranch brand cap that is great, but no local dealers for those as well. Opinions on what has served you well are appreciated. Thanks - Doug
