I did a highway trip and decided to reset about Andrew Square a little south of Boston. Took the Boston Byepass through Logan and headed to the North Shore. Being a little unfamiliar with the route I was doing 45;50 mpg and was shocked. 27 mpg for 20 miles when I started hitting stop lights and traffic. Did my business and started heading back. I came down 93 and wondered what straight highway would do . So I reset again and headed south to Boston and South Shore at 50/60 mph. I almost got to my exit when road work turned good driving into bumper to bumper stop and go. So I pulled out the cell and snapped a pic. Not as good as going north but I was driving faster.

I had a 1979 ford f150 , that had bad heat, /the thermostat was stuck open. The water in the whole engine had to warm up instead of being bypassed to get the heat. Could be a reason for bad gas mileage too. I have to bight my tongue every time I go in to GMC service. They wouldn't change mu oil either. We have a maintenance program and can't change the oil useless it 25% or less...

I brought the truck to GMC and they wouldn't look at it. They said bring it back after you get 5000 miles on it.. So I have to get 15mpg for a half a year before they look at it???? I also complained about my heater. My Dodge got hot heat in 2 minutes. This GMC takes more than 7 miles to get heat that is warm. I drive 7 miles in the morning, that's how I know. They told me to let it warm up in the morning then,, The remote allows 2 ten minute cycles.. So I said in this day and age you need to let a truck warm up for 20 minutes to get heat. How come my dodge got heat in 2 minutes. Is that another GMC design flaw? He said.. They are different trucks. LOL.. no shit one has modern engineering and a GMC threw the engineers out the window.

I have about 500 milers on by my own driving and the truck has 900. I noticed a few things . In auto 4x4 I'm getting about 11 mpg around town. I didn't pay attention in 4x4 high. I do think 4x4 high works better than 4x4 auto but I don't have the snow plow on now with the 4x4 auto. My overall mileage on trip B is @ 16mpg and trip A varies depending on where and the speed I drive. The longer I leave the trip A without resetting the lower it goes. So I think resetting is giving everyone a false feel for real MPG.

I can't see it. I do see you aren't moving on the speedometer. you do a lot of idling?

I finally got my truck! I only have a 100ish miles on it but it seems 25 to 30 around town does real good. I took the wife out to dinner last night and did 20 miles down the highway and got 21mpg at 60. I'm sure I'll have to do the same thing and figure out what speeds get the better mpg. So far I really like the truck!

Merry Xmas Bill and everyone else too. Someone really smart once told me that the way to gauge engine value is how much HP to fuel usage it makes. If the 4.3, 5.3 and the 6.2 all use 3 gallons a hour to produce 100hp you should get the same economy if all the engines push a equivalent truck. That's why I look for charts showing gals/ torque/hp. They aren't around or make such charts easy to find for some reason.
