I have a 2014 High Country that I bought new. I started getting the Service Driver Assist message a few weeks ago and my setting changed to audio, could not set it to the seat vibrator. Truck only has less than 24000 miles but over 36 months old so warranty is out. Dropped it off at dealer the other day for oil change and tire rotation and asked them if they knew what might be wrong. Said they would check it.
When they called that it was ready, said the left haptic motor was bad in the seat and it would be $399 to replace it!
Once I recovered I told them to just forget it, I wasn't paying that. They said OK, they didn't have the part anyway but if I changed my mind they could have it the next day.
When I picked it up they charged me $105 "diagnostic fee" because I had asked them to check it. Of course that would apply to the $399 if I decided to let them fix it within 30 days.
Came home and did what I should have first, checked for this problem online. And there must be thousands out there with the same problem. Always the wires just break off. Even found a couple of youtube videos on how to fix it. And to top it off, this part says "Made In China" right on the box. And can be bought online for $39 (genuine GM part).
I don't know when I have been so steamed that GM would put this cheap Chinese junk in their Premium vehicles and then charge premium prices for replacing them when they fail. And evidently it's not a matter of if, but when they will fail. They need to be replacing them for free, and source from some place capable of making a quality part.
